In this video, I begin to work on my free Turbo Subaru Outback XT and discover that it’s a big money pit. I start taking apart the top of the engine and the turbo to discover why this car was free. It’s a total mess and I’m starting to think these are not the best cars.

  1. I'm from NY so considered rust belt, really disappointed because recently I tried to do a DIY oil change because I know how to do it so why pay for parts and service, but little did I know half the plug for the oil pan had rotted away and rounded as I attempted to get it off. So yes, I am from the rust belt 😂

  2. I know this is a old video and this comment isn't likely to be seen but man this video is just another fine example of how solid a person Alex is. To sink more money into a car than it's worth just so it's safe for someone else is a enormous act of kindness. Love this channel

  3. I have always lived in the south and every vehicle I've ever worked on was from the south. Except for one. We had a Z71 Suburban that we bought used when it was about 10 years old. I didn't realize until after we had bought it that the previous owner was from Michigan. I went to replace the hub bearings and ended up standing on a breaker bar with about an 8 foot piece of pipe on it. That was my only vehicle I've ever owned from north of the Ohio River.

  4. Hi Alex. You mentioned and showed a long crank issue with this turbo Subaru and even 6 Star talked about it can be a vacuum leak issue.
What did you end up find out was the problem and could you get yourself or the guys at 6 star to talk through the diagnosis for this. We have a 2003 Liberty GT Wagon 😊 with quad AVCS and automatic that does a similar thing only on cold starts overnight or sit for several hours more than 4-5hours.
My son and I are loving the content especially the C63/E63 and E55.

  5. Call this car project "giveback" like Outback, but it relates to the purpose of repairing this vehicle (donation). Also, the original person you tried to donate this Outback to gave it back 😂

  6. I just purchased the same car but fortunately it is just a simple 2.5 non turbo car but it does have a ripped timing belt. I cant wait to pull the engine and take it apart. You can pull these engines in 1.5h which makes work on them much easier.

  7. No gloves but worse, why don't you wear any eye protection? Working under any car is garanteed to rain debris especially when you're banging and prying rusty parts. Just sayin'!

  8. If you had dropped the whole engine and gearbox out in the first place , like the dealers do , your job would have been far faster and easier . Flat engines are a bitch to work on in situe but once out , everything is so much easier .
