Obviously, my $80 budget was for materials used and I buy everything in bulk for the shop and have owned the polisher for years. If you are starting with no tools or materials understand that there are cheaper alternatives and lower quantity bottles of products to keep your budget low. You can buy polishers used on eBay or FB marketplace, cheaper pads at Harbor Freight, etc. Be creative and if you do buy in the quantities I do you’ll have enough product to fix scratches on literally hundreds of cars. I barely used any of the products and materials in this video and now have leftovers to use for years to come! Enjoy!

Great video and very informative. I bought a 2002 corvette recently and there are some scratches on the passenger rear quarter panel. Received 2 quotes to repair and repaint for $1,500 and $3,500 .
Watched your video and my question is: After wet sanding, what type of compound is used for the buffing phase?
I think you are deliberating calling “marks” (which are superficial and easily removed) and scratches. A scratch goes deep.
very helpful thanks
Is it possible I can send you an image of my scratch
Good video.
One thing you missed that would make it better . Prime it first with the correct color primer.
Especially when you're trying to cover dark with light colored paint.
Plus , plastic bumper primer is different.
Pen says it has both paint and primer. That is ok for little chips and light scratches.
Somebody keyed this dude's car.
Why isn't this an option at car detailing places? I wouldn't mind paying $200-$500 for this job.
Nicely done. (I prep Porsche's for full concours.)
Maybe you could've tried Dr. ColorChip. It probably would've taken half the effort. Nearly every Dr. ColorChip job I've seen looks good, and the process is pretty fast. Have you tried it?
U didnt clay bar the panel first ?
Excellent video, I'm glad I found it.
Wow amazing results…will definitely give this a try…
7k por paint? i could paint 6 cars for that amount
Why not just do the clear coat touch up step then sand and polish so you don't have to spend the time on the first wet sand to see? Seems like it may be slightly more involved but should definitely work.? Also when you say "buff" does that mean using a high polish compound or is it a coarser cutting compound? Thanks so much for the great videos.
What compound are you using?
Thanks great demo
It was dark, that officer NEVER IDENTIFIED him self or why he was there first off. Then within seconds he escalated the situation by putting his hands on the boy. If it would have been me, im a licensed CCW gun totter. My gun would have been drawn because of it being dark, no emergency lights were on the cruiser, and a stranger had opened my truck door with our my permission!!! Im glad this didnt happen on my farm for sure.
Notes taken:
-when vandalising a car for insurance fraud, dont go too deep with the key scratches
-by breaking the rear window in heavy rain, you can make thousands of dollars worth of damage
-dont break components that are hard to reach, beacuse the insurance company will probably will find out about what you were up to
This was really informational .
Great video.
Worth 38 mins of real situation with good explanation in each stage of buffing and it’s what we the non professional will face when diy with limited tools.
Super impressive stuff
If you have deep thin scratches like your car fill as you did. When dry glue some fine grit wet dry sand paper or emery cloth to the end of a wood dowel slightly larger than the width of the scratch. Wet sand back and forth along the scratch. Clean with alcohol and add another fine-light coat of paint when dry and repeat sanding. This will protect the good paint. When its as good as you can make it clears coat and polish with finishing compound.
good work………thanks
Hi Alex! I'm a new fan of the channel and I enjoy all the DIY stuff that you do. It gives me the courage to do stuff I'm scared of. One question, for your buffer, what pad are you using? Is that a foam pad?
Great video !! What are the dry time for clearcoat and paint before you sand it ??
Looks really good but could you not have painted the mirror caps and trim yourself? You ordered paint anyway so get some in a can, it's not difficult for such small parts.
From someone that works in the industry, if your insurance company cash settles with you based on an estimate they wrote/approved, they don't care what you do with it. For example, If they wrote a 3k estimate to replace and paint a few panels and you have a friend/shop that will repair the panels for 1k then the remaining 2k is yours to have or you don't have to repair it all and pocket 100%. But they WILL have a problem if you try to claim the same damage 2 years later so don't do that. If the damage is 5k or more and you have lien holder, they'll have to copay the check to both you and bank.

Beautiful work! Great job saving this gorgeous B7! Seriously….people that key cars are the scum of the earth!
Filling in with clear as well as base color and sanding down is a game changer. The goal on my daily driver is a 10 — looks OK from 10 feet away. Thanks.
Would cleaning and adding clear to the lighter scratches first be better? Seems like you'd have to remove less of your factory clear.
