  1. So it's been a little over a year since you took this to get looked at on the dyno. So have you fix the water pump and got it re tuned?

  2. I’m a pretty new subscriber but I’ve watched more hours of your videos than I’d like to admit and my wife just asked “ mark rober does car stuff?” 😂💀

  3. My 570s I could get to 40MPG on a long trip on the highway if I'm a baby. (520 mile range on a full tank)
It's honestly kind of insane, the 650s I've noticed thus far is much, much more difficult to keep the mpg above 20's
I'll see what I can get it to on the next long trip lol

  4. Hey! If you still own this mclaren, you gotta take it in for the Takata Recall!
I just had mine taken in, the delivery // transport is completely free and they send a mclaren tech to your location.
another thing that I was surprised about, is under the recall they are required by law to upgrade all of the modules to the latest version.
NORMALLY they charge about 500$ per module and there are 7 of them.
Something that should normally be free, is free at the moment. — (Normally people don't use the built in NAV anyways but hey, a nice bonus of something I'd never pay for otherwise)

  5. 27:25 why? Because manufacturers try to be "eco" which means selling more engines than oil changes. In Europe it's even more ridicolous, some manuals say 20-25k miles and 2 years for some cars. They don't care whats gonna happen to car after warranty.

  6. A word about your dyno figures: Super cool with flames and better noise, but please be careful to make sure your car doesn't become one of those examples with bent or broken con rods, etc. Assuming a 15% loss, your 12C is making around 680 hp (745 Nm) at 6500 rpm and 795 Nm at 4000 rpm. This compares with 607 hp (576 Nm) at 7500 rpm and 600 Nm at 3000 rpm. That's 32% more torque in the midrange and 29% more torque at the high end. Because the power peak went down by 1000 rpm and torque peak went up by 1000 rpm, the power band has been squished, indicating that boost is added heavily from 4000 to 6500 rpm–and 30+% is a LOT more boost.

  7. A word about tire widths: the 12C weighs 3,200 lbs with a 43/57% weight distribution; a front tire supports 688 lbs. With a 29 psi recommended inflation pressure, this makes the contact patch 23.7 sq in. If the tire width is 235 mm (9.3 in), then the contact patch length is 2.6 in. At some point, if you want the front wheels to help with the braking, you're going to need some length to the contact patch as the deceleration forces are transmitted longitudinally through the tire into the road. This is also the case with acceleration and the rear tires–wider is not necessarily faster overall. While cornering forces might be higher, you'll begin to compromise grip in a straight line. Bottom line: McLaren knew what they were doing when they chose the sizes they did, and trying to second guess them is a Fool's Errand.

  8. A word about 10,000 mile oil change intervals: Yes, there'll be more metal in the oil filter than if you change the oil twice as often–twice as much metal, if you think about it. If the oil's lubricating properties are still within spec, and the filter is capturing the debris, then by changing oil at 5,000 miles won't really help other than there'll be about half the debris in the filter when you cut it open. What you really get with more frequent oil changes is that if you don't get the car screaming hot every time you drive it, then water will condense and stay in the oil, which not only makes a poor lubricant (more wear) but it causes sludge as it mixes with the combustion gases (aka dirt). All that said, yes 5,000 mile oil changes despite synthetic oil are what I do–it's way less expensive than any alternative.

  9. Dealers amaze me I went to Saturn Chevy dealer for an oil front main seal for 06 Saturn Vue and it was $80 back order wtf! So looked up gm cars with same motor then asked for same part for a Chevy Cobalt it was in stock $8.00 😮!

  10. Buddy of mine worked for Nissan Engineering. Told me they did oil tests to see how long they could get out of an oil change without any change in protection. 10K no problem. They went up to 15K and oil was just starting to show some downward trends.

  11. "Mclaren engines are so unreliable". Also: "ive bought this supercar designed and built by formula 1 engineers but ive met this guy on the net that can get an extra 200bhp"

  12. For that kind of money, you would expect the car to detect you standing next to the door and open the door for you without your involvement as long as the key is on you. Guess they aren't that high tech and as inovative as thought to be. That oil is picth black which is not good for the engine. I wouldnt even let my oil go that black ifbi want that engine to last. Dark brown is the perfect time to chabge the oil to keepbit clean.

  13. Thats what they tell you until you buy one then it turns out you need to purchase the additional feature to enable otherwise you just get the basic feature. Nty!

  14. Just love how Alex is happy solving those crazy difficult issues while working on the McLaren. What a nightmare. I'd be throwing wrenches and drinking copious amounts of IPAs to get through the stuff he resolves.
