In this video, this Legit Street Experiment if you will I dump 20 gallons of water into a running BMW engine to try and super clean the pistons and other heavily carboned internals. At 175,000 miles my E30 was suffering from sticking valves and carbon was becoming a real issue. Here’s what happens when you dump 20 gallons of water into a running engine including before and after boroscope footage. This didn’t end as I wanted it to but it was a lot of fun! Enjoy!

  1. I, i, think you.. I mean what you're supposed to do is slowly pour in about a single small bottle of purified water. About a quart. With the engine running. That's all it takes. I would let the engine warm up for about 5 minutes also. Oh well I'm going to watch this it's might be fun.

  2. I had noticed it was a rather cold day when you did this (winter). You want to do this on a hot or warm day (no snow). Engine needs to be warmer as well so it steams better. May of been to cool.

  3. You could have 6 small fish tank pipes joined together at one end ..then a water controlled valve ,and then put the line in a gallon container above the engine level . Put one pipe each in the intake runners
So you can be assured .. you are not hydrolocking the engine at the same time , best equal distribution of distilled/ demineralised water in the engine ..
It's coming from a powertrain quality engineer , working in a powertrain division , testing engines on top of the line Dynos for 15 plus years . N been working on engines for 40/ 53 years on daily basis ..!

  4. MMO works better and it won't hide in the crevises of the engine like water does, I own a classic car dealership, not like 50 fully restored cars, We do running and driving project cars, We will buy a classic car and get it running, driving and inspection ready project cars. The first thing we do is change the oil, we do a 25% mix with the cheapest "store brand" oil and oil filter we can find and MMO then drive it around 100-150 miles then change the oil again and take the oil pan off and clean the bottom end and throw the oil pan back on with a new gasket. it does an absolutely FABULOUS job.

  5. My dad taught me this 20 yrs ago with a car they got me for my 19th birthday. It sat for a long time and didn't run great. We used an old windex bottle to spray into the throttle body. The old 91 Eagle Premier ran so much better after like half a windex bottle. Definitely worked wonders on that car and a few others over the years.

  6. Mix brake cleaner, trans fluid, and WD-40, poor a little down each cylinder, let it sit over night, try to dry it up a little the next day in each cylinder, do an oil change, and then start it up and let it run for a while, it works wonders. It loosens up all the carbon and cleans it all out after it runs for an hour or two of driving. It’ll look real clean in there.

  7. I tried this one time wirh a car I used to have. I got carried away and put in too much water too fast and I broke a rod in half! 😢 Unlike gas, liquid cannot be compressed. So please be very careful if you're going to try this.

  8. I have done this, put a vacuum T in the small line and reduce the hole size by plugging the end of the vacuum line and taking a small drill bit to make a small hole.
You can zip tie a gallon under the hood and zip tie the hose to keep it in the water, refill the water from day to day and drive it around for a few days.

  9. Hey Alex I really want you to revisit this! I want you to have the water pour in while driving on the highway. The engine needs to be under load with high revs and fuel flow. You see when a head gasket is leaking the cylinder is spotless, its because its going in when the engine is under load. Love you input dude keep it going.
