Headlight Restoration using Clear Coat. This video will show you how to clean and restore your headlights so they will never turn yellow or hazy again! You have seen videos on restoring headlights with bug spray, toothpaste, baking soda, and the kits you buy in the store, but all of these methods are temporary and eventually the haze and oxidation will come back.
My method will first make the headlight clear by wet sanding and then put a UV coat on it to seal it in.

  1. After 3 coats of clear gloss… There is some haziness from paint I believe. What shall I do to get absolutely clear glass now?

  2. Just complete this project on my girlfriend's car. Works perfectly. The headlight were completely yellow and now looks really clear. Thanks Chris I will feel safer when she drive at night.

  3. This is definitely NOT permanent as one need to redo the all job within a year.I tried exactly the same thing and nothing is permanent.

  4. Just got my car back from the bodyshop after I've hit a deer. My headlight was 1500$ EACH … CRAZY stuff … Luckily I had insurance cover it all !

  5. I share this video with people from time to time because of how well it worked for me. I'm glad to see that you have still been responding to people years later.

  6. Followed the instructions and the paint did a cracking effect on the first layer now I have to sand them back down any tips to make sure it does not happen again?

  7. Hey Chris, I started doing this today on my mum's car. Started on the worst headlight, just waiting for the clear gloss to dry, will finish it off tomorrow & do her other headlight. I've been promising her for a while. It looks so good already, AMAZING, I actually can't stop looking at what a great job I've done. Thank you so much for all that you do 👍

  8. Does using higher grit ratings not yield similar results? I was sanding the plastic gauge cluster lens from my car using 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, and 3000 grit sandpapers to remove some stains I couldn't get rid of with polishes and such. I alternated between rinsing off the surface really well and wet sanding like you did here. After all was said and done, I polished the surfaces and it looked great. However, once dry, the surfaces looked pretty hazy and not clear enough to install back in the car. I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and replace the plastic altogether.

  9. Thanks for this, just completed this today and worked quite well, heaps better than the before state of the headlight.

  10. Thanks for this Chris. Here in New Zealand 🇳🇿clear headlights is a safety requirement 😇

  11. Do I still have to sand it if I bought new headlights? I just want to keep them permanently clear before the oxidization starts.

  12. yesterday I did both headlights, one after buff and polish came out like new headlights, however, the other headlight (same set but from driver side) as soon as I spray 2nd coat it starts to crazing, I did sand down and a re-spray total of 3 times now still having the same crazing on the clear coat. any idea what might cause it?

  13. If u end up doing this u end up fuking up yr headlights because u are thinning them as u use the sand paper not much of a good method unless u dont care about yr car go ahead or if the headlights alr old..

  14. I followed the directions exactly waiting 30 minutes in between the 3 coats. I used 600, 2500, 5000 grit sandpapers. Yet, mine came out milky and cracked. I sprayed lightly, same amount as you did Chris. Same cans too. How do I clean up this cracked milky mess?

  15. So which method works best. The clear coat gloss coat or the ceramic coating? I've seen this video using the clear coat then on with the trailblazer using the ceramic coating.
