Front Strut Replacement. Learn how to replace front or rear struts in your car. In this case I am working on a Mazda 3 but replacing struts is the same or very similar for most vehicles so after watching this video you will be able to replace the struts in your vehicle.

Chris sounds like Randall from Clerks
I have an 08 Mazda6 so this was super helpful for me
Thanks so much for this video. I am new driver who just got their first car but it has a broken strut on the front passenger side. Now I can fix it myself!
As Chris says: "Perfect."
What is the deal….should I use quick struts or individual ??? This is a quick strut, right ?
Lots of info online saying not to use quick struts. Thoughts ??? Thx !!!
Hey Chris, where do you normally find out the specific torque specifications for specific bolts? Are you going off of general knowledge?
Never ever ever ever replace quick strut assembly like he did in this video. Your OEM spring worth more than a pair of quick struts. A 2000 Honda Civic OEM complete strut assembly cost over 600, why do you think you can buy something functional with a fraction of that price?
He didn't have any issues.
Every car on earth has at least 1 stripped nut or screw lol
Midas wants $1,500 to do that on my 08 highlander.
Hi Chris, tried to replace the struts on my Windstar 2000, it has been an adventure! I hope you can help! While installing the new one I realized that the distance (new strut) between the hole for the sway bar and the eyelet hole where the knuckle bolt drives in is about 6 in. while on the old strut is 5.5 in. I tried to install it but it was not possible for 2 reasons; 1- the sway bar was 0.5 in. shorter and the knuckle would hit the eyelet welding. Well, I thought the part was wrong, they checked if the p/n was right and shipped me another set, but same problem. So I decided to check with Autoparts (local) and they had a different brand but it was exactly the same as the other brand. I tried to re-install it thinking I could have made a mistake but no, no mistake, but I took lots of pictures to show the problems (I cannot attach them here). I tried a mechanic, the local parts shop and the one online, nobody can figure it out. Have you ever had an issue like this? Thanks for any help/suggestion you might have, Carlo
more mazda 3 2006 uploads please.
Great how to video. Looks doable. I do mostly my own vehicle maintenance these days. Why not add another vehicle replacement part to my repertoire. 😄
How come no antiseize in the knucle between the strut and the knuckle? No more rust.
Is there any issue if the front two struts are swapped, right one on the left side and left on on the right side? This has occurred on our van at the mechanic shop and we are continuing to have tire issues. Having to replace them repeatedly within a year because they are threadbare. Thank you.
Ahhh, I needed this video a couple of months ago! My car started clunking when I'd drive over any bumps in the road… not good! Took it straight to a mechanic and he tells me both front struts are bust and need replacing- fine. An hour or so in he rang to tell me he can't unscrew one of the bolts on the strut tower, that he'd have to cut it off to get it out and it would be an extra £80 to get in a new bolt!! That job lot cost me near £400. No way near confident enough yet to tackle this stuff on my car, but even just understanding what the heck is happening is a better position to be in. Thank you so much Chris for sharing your knowledge, you make it so much less intimidating!! Loving your channel.
When the Mazda’s rockin…
great vid would love one on changing a turbo on a 2007 jeep patriot as mine dont work
Quick fix struts are super easy, done these on 4 cars already no vids cause I suck at self promotion!!!!
What mallet is that?
Hey Chris I have a question 🙋â€ÂÂ♂︠I own a mustang and every time I drive the car and I hit a bump I don’t jump up and down it feels that my butt is the suspension . The second problem I want to fix is the cars alignment . MY CAR is leaning to side . Like one side is higher than the other . I replace my entire lower suspension with your other video
hoping to do mine soon went to firestone taxing 997.98$ and safe to say i’d rather learn😂
You are a very talented mechanic!
One of the best explanations ever. Have you considered becoming a teacher?
You should have used the jack for support underneath the control arm after removing the strut. The CV joint can get ripped out by not doing this simple step.
Do I have to to on jack stands or is the jack enough to hold the car?
Wow, I worked at a shop for years, and it seemed so difficult, but Chris make it look so easy.
Just wanted to say thank you!!!!!!!! I fixed both of mine couple days ago and saved $300!!!!!!! Thanks Chris! You always help me out more than you know!
love it
i just replaced my 2000 ford mustang shocks and struts
Hi Chris, guys. I have seen on another video: mechanic loosened axle nut. Is it really necessary to do?
In most cases after replaced it is necessary to have a professional alignment done.
These are quick struts does he have a video where he keeps the spring?
Man, those OE quick struts are garbage, only last a year if even. Do it properly and get manufacturer shocks and towers/bearings and use spring compressor.
Thanks for the help
'penetrating fluid', really?
If they’re just noisy, do they need replacing?
My trucks struts have been bad for the past 100k miles
Thanks man! You saved me $400 bucks on this video. I can’t thank you enough!
As handy as this video is my car the shocks and springs come separately and removing the top mount is dangerous as the spring is under pressure I’m just wondering what’s the safest way of replacing them without asking a garage to do it at a cost
Hey chris. I own a saturn sc2 2002 and I have oil leaking from above the exhaust manifold and I don't know much about auto mechanics.
