  1. Sweet. Thanks a lot again!!- watched your video once and 30 minutes later had everything I needed and in a couple hours had nice working back-up pod lights. Again only had to watch once since you explained the process so detailed. Awesome video and thanks a lot!

  2. Why would you use another power wire and a relay for the new lights? The draw from the backup light is nominal so you're using the backup light power leg to initiate the relay, then a constant hot from the battery to power the light. So when you go into reverse the factory light comes on powering the relay which will close the circuit and send 12v to the new backup lights. Sounds like way overkill my friend. The backup factory circuit and wires should be able to handle the extra draw with no issues. I wired a trailer harness directly from the lights and have had no issues in over 10 years. Seeing as though both lights only lite up while backing (one function), wire the first and then from one light to the other. You can still run a fuse inline from the OEM light wire splice so if anything does happen to the wire to the new light and in between the lights that could cause a short, it will protect the factory wires. Just as effective, just as safe, and a hell of a lot less work and materials. I get it, you want to be sure you don't overload the circuit and cause any harm to the factory harness. Ok, but there are easier and better ways to accomplish the same agenda. Just my 2 cents.
    I had to edit this because you are running 3 grounds because you used a relay. My way: One frame ground to the first light, then with the power wire run the ground wire for the second light. Incidentally, I would have used some type of inhibitor between the ground connection and the frame after you cleaned it to prevent it from rusting or corroding from being exposed to the road elements. Love your video for how to work harder. Just kidding, I do like your videos, you help folks with little or no knowledge do things so they don't mess up.

  4. chris so you explained that youre able to dim the lights using that second ground from their wiring harnesses, but how do you do that? i have a 3 way switch on the harness im using to install cubes, and if im able to make the lights dim thatd be sweet

  5. Hold the solder iron underneath the wire and run the solder from the iron up and then solder, it makes the solder go in the wires. Ive been trained to do it. The way he showed to solder will create a cold solder and creates a bad connection

  9. Talking about headlights on newer models it's not an issue but wondering maybe you can do a video on how to stop your lights/ headlights from dimming every time you decide to lower/raise your power windows thats if there's a fix to that

  10. Makes me think back around 1979 when i was 19. I put forklift lights on back of my 4×4 but put it on a toggle switch. Lol cop pulls me over i forgot i had them on..he said what the fuc% i thought you was towing a car backwards and he had his headlights on lol…i was young and did not know any better to wire with a relay to stock backup light wires..no ticket he just laughed and shook his head..

  11. What if you go off road? Will there be enough clearance between the backup lights and the ground? I'd hate to ruin the new lights because the truck didn't clear a branch or rock that crushed the new lights. Even on a dirt road, clearance is everything!

  12. Chris,
    Use silicone filled butt connectors for extra protection, and the tube is called "wire loom". I just used an old aircraft landing light from a Cessna 172 for my backup light with #10 stranded wire through a switch on the dash to the light and from the light to ground. I mounted it on the body rear bumper to the left of the license plate recess. It worked great!

Hey Chris , I have the same project but for a fender side light that goes on only to light the side of the car when entering a dark corner but I want to trigger it by the turn signal ? how can I do that? i.e. how to get a constant current from a turn flashing signal? I'm just trying to imitate the old style cars that has a fender light ( I really don't know what they call it).

  16. Oh man, to connect the power lead to the taillight feed, you should use solder-less crimp connectors and then some heat shrink to seal it. Moisture will get in the taped connection and erode the solder joint. Anytime you are connecting new wires to existing, you need to use this method. Otherwise, concise explanation of what needs to be done.

    I use an old halogen 55 watt foglamp, and I have installed it at a higher place , so it is not exposed when driving on the trail.
    Also , I have a switch installed in the cabin to turn the light on and off.
    So when reversing in town , I do not blind everyone 😉
    The relais is mounted under the hood, near the battery.
    For protection of the cables, I have used a piece of old garden-hose, works fine.
