GM gave us the legendary LS engine but they had to go and mess it up with something they failed at 40 years ago. Think Cadillac’s V8-6-4 engine in the early ’80s. In this video, I correct General Motor’s mistake and add 100 horsepower to my LS engine. This may be the fastest Police car ever made and yes it idled for 12 months and has the equivalent of 357,000 miles but with Active Fuel Management deleted, lighter valves, a big NA camshaft, long tube headers and more this Caprice PPV has a whole new lease on life!

So how com you used the old cam plate ,the gasket on it has no tension left on it can cause an oil leakage.
great video ♥
Awesome video
Sounds like its Swapping Cylinders
Your starter wires were eaten by mice….vegetable oil cases
I was totally surprised when i torn down my 300,000 mile 2004 6.0 rod and main bearings look almost new. All but front cam bearing as well. Considering the trash /build up inside the block. It was darn right amazing.
Nothing wrong with the afm lifters if you turn it off in the tune. They’ll last just fine. Bought my 08 with 79k miles and immediately had it turned off. Everything was still good at 325k miles when I decided to throw a cam in it
Great Video! I have a stock 1999 Chevy Silverado extended cab 5.3 step side. I have 316,000 miles on it and was thinking about making it a street truck to play around with.
What could I expect to pay to do these upgrades to my truck. I do not plan to add boost or spray, I just want more power on motor.
What a dumn design… Absolutely dumb
Do you port heads? I have an l92 i want to do some light mods on.
When you have wiring insulation issues close to a connector like that just de-pin the connector one wire at a time and slip some adhesive lined heat shrink over it. Thats a common spot for the insulation to come off the crank sensor wires on those LS engines.
……. MY chevy silverado has 300k on it…. but i am going to rebuild it and do a afm delete
if i could give two likes i would – thanks for all the links to the specs!
Did you have any pressure issues after the AFM delete? I’ve seen people rivet VLOM passages or plug the pressure relief valve in the oil pan area. Did you do any of that ? I get a surge oil pressure when warm. I’m thinking my new oil pump o ring might of used wrong one but just curious
So glad they didn't put AFM in the L96 used in my 2012 2500HD.
Good video, but there's one thing that glairs out to me… You didn't replace the cam position sensor in the front cover – while it was off. Me, just having to replace one with the cover installed (of which took 6 hours – because they fall apart as you try to remove them) imo – this will be a problem. Other than that – good job.
what is the advantage of going to lighter valve? Less wear on lifters/cam?
I think it is amazing that after all the power add on's, modifications and upgrades to an LS engine or transmission that ALL the horsepower and torque rests and relies on three small bolts between the torque converter and flywheel. 300hp; three bolts. 900hp; three bolts. Those three bolts are made from high grade steel and that is one place where I will stop what I am doing, call UBER or LYFT, ride across town to my parts store and dealer to buy some red threadlocker. Use it per the directions and torque specs on some brand new factory bolts. 1000hp on three little bolts? Don't trust "bolts in a bag" from your local hardware store, but new dealer only hardware for that all too important connection between torque converter and flywheel.
I noticed you used red loc-tite (or similar) for the cam retainer plate. I did that once….and went back into the top-end about two years later. The damn bolts (3 of them) would NOT budge…actually breaking the torx (?) bits twice. Frustrated and bewildered, I suddenly remembered I had used red loc-tite on the bolts. Ugh. I torched them up with a significant amount of heat – individually – and they finally came out with little resistance. I'll never use red loc-tite again, unless it's for stuff I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be removing again (or, at least not for a long long time – or until the next guy is the one who has to worry about it.) Cheers mate.
Man, I want this car so bad. I just can’t take the leap knowing about the failed multi displacement/lifter ordeal 😞
I don't see a link for torque specs
I had a 2008 GMC Sierra "Vortec Max". I bought it new when I got out of college, and I loved that thing. Made it to around 138K and lifters collapsed. Shop I had work on it must not have known what they were doing on these AFM systems because only 200 miles later, more collapsed lifters. This was my personal truck, but also my main truck I used in my landscaping business, so I didn't have time to mess around with it at the time and had to sell it off after said shop tried their best to fix it again. I wished I had the knowledge that I do now about them to work on it 🙁 I turned around and bought a 6.0 powerstroke, so my mechanical worries were far from over, LOL
It was all about satisfying EPA emissions .

I'm a little late, but the G8, Commodore, SS, and PPV are essentially the same car. Aftermarket and stock exhaust are interchangable between them. In case someone is looking for info on a PPV.
Hes made multiple mistakes on this .
First…. Didnt shim oil pump before tigtening down.
Second… Thats not how you install a cam …. Dot to dot is incorrect, find TRUE TDC.. no matter where the crank sprocket dot is… IT WILL NOT BE straight up all the time
Third…. Your cam IS NOT installed correctly… You did not even sho the cam card nor did you verify the installation soecs of the cam card.
How much was your total build n do you have a build list tuner included
I literally just bought the caprice and start working and re watching the videos thanks bro I been looking for a project car that makes big power sounds nice reliable and easy to work on I own many car but this is so fun to work and drive
I like the future gear head assistant. Great info.
Dude, WHAT the HECK are YOU talking about ?? LS Engine EASY 2 work ON !! 2013 Sierra 5.3 (84K miles) with LIFTER problem that has been towed …F-I-V-E… times for the last 3 months to 3 different garages that ALL told me they could repair and NOT one garage owner has even loosened one bolt on the valve cover to diagnose the problem !!! Last garage in Jonestown,Pa had the truck 50 days and continued to say "parts are on order" !! Sierra is again sitting in my driveway and I have NO idea what 2 do and i do NOT want to pay a GMC Dealer $10 Grand to replace the engine !! Edward 😡💀👻
I will be doing the same soon. How many miles were on this engine before you tore it down?
A fortunate son.
Where can we find that round green bristle brush for the die grinder?
