454 Big Block vs. -18* and a old battery. Another bad idea. Let’s see how this old Chevrolet C10 handles a cold start.

  1. You think that's cold/ Ha, You should be up here when it gets to -45C. Best Vehicle I've ever had at starting at that temperature was a 1969 Toyota Corolla without having to plug the block heater in. I was the only one in the neighbourhood that got vehicle started.

  2. You can tell this is very early Derek because after delivering the opening line, he doesn't shake his head and mutter "Nope" while walking out of the shot. 🙂

  3. I had a car that wouldn't start in the morning because it was too cold. I was at a motel in Winnipeg. I was supposed to be out by noon of something.I was down a quart of oil so I heated a quart that I had in the trunk, then i ran it under the tap in the room until it was warm. I poured it in and it started. True story.

  4. -18 F….a feller'd call that a balmy day in Alberta….almost every winter, there are a few days when your vehicle has to start when it's -45 C (-49 F). Man, you really have to feed 'er the onions on those mornings, eh?

  5. Watching you do that makes me remember how cold it was in Chicago in 1984 when I was in navy “A” school. The instructor was late, and he told us the glorious story about having to dig the snow out from under the front of his car, and warm the oil pan with a propane torch, because he said he was too cheap to put an oil heater in it. Bet your loving now being in Tennessee now! 🙂

  6. "This is completely practical because, when it starts, I'm not going anywhere with it." 😀

Yes, but you'll have that feeling of accomplishment. Well, not in your hands, but otherwise… 🤘
