This is something that a fellah always tended to overthink. Isn't Atlanta also technically Eastbound and up from Texarkana Tx? Or was Jerry Reed not being cartographically literal with his lyrics, and instead Eastbound and down meant travelling East with the pedal down? I.e heading East fast. Doing what they say can't be done. Because we've got a long way to go but a short time to get there.
