2. I know this is an old video. Started watching the old stuff as a newer viewer. I recently took my Ford C-Max to a non-dealer shop local to me for a steering rack replacement. I was quoted something like $6500 after tax. I called around to other shops, but no one else can do it as it requires programming the electronic rack. I called the dealer and got a quote that would be roughly $3500 after tax. It's not great still, but I don't see another option other than to sell the car. If I sold my otherwise sorted car I'd have to spend time to repair the deferred maintenance on that car and a bit of parts or otherwise spend as much or more or parts and labor at a shop. I'd rather just keep the car I know has been maintained. It's wacky that the dealer is somehow the better choice.
