The 402,000 mile Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is back at Sound Performance for revenge. It broke on the dyno last time and we weren’t able to get good dyno numbers. Its all fixed up and in this video you see exactly what 400k miles does for power on a hand built AMG engine.
Thanks Sound Performance for the dyno time.

Thanks

This is not something new, the m113 and m113k are bulletproof and very well engineered
I’ve had my ML63 dynod twice heat especially heat and humidity made a 27hp difference. On Friday it was 71* on following Monday Afternoon it was 88* and humid as hell here in Tallahassee. 27 Ho difference!!
Watching old content Alex as you have been too quiet lately.
I’m looking at an 03 e55 with 145k and 9 owners. I’m hoping you can give me some advice. It’s been serviced at Mercedes it’s whole life. Thanks in advance!
My baby only has 125K , good to know how they hold out, especially those torque figures.
With a reflash, change plugs/coils, wouldn't even know it's a 400 mile car
Always got some kind of flaw in your tests… Makes it not a true value test
I have a 2003 E55 with low miles, 110k, all original everything. CA car. Always garaged
Now don"t show this to Scotty Kimler, he'll lose his shit "But but but it's not a Toyota it's a Mercedes so it's shit right right?"
wonder how the ABC is🤣
402000 miles? Wow.
Did you put the computer in dyno mode? You can do it through the steering wheel controls.
it's nice but that supra looks even better
Hi Alex,
I’ve a 2005 E55 AMG.
Having problem with the coolant pump.
Is this the part # for that coolant pump (Intercooler pump: Bosch 0392022010)?
Thank you from Canada!
Tristan.
Alex, i’ve owned two AMG 63s, a brand new 209 C63 AMG and a two year old, certified E63 AMG. I had lifter problems with the E63 and possibly valve timer problems. Dealer changed all 4 cams and 31 Of the 32 lifters. Car ran beautifully for 1000 miles or so, total indicated mileage was about 43,000 and at time of issue, I had owned the car for four years. Never abused it, proper maintenance, never used launch control and only full throttle on the freeway. Didn’t keep the C63 long enough to know (less than one year). Your 402,000 E55 AMG obviously never had valve issues, simply put, what’s the difference? I want another but am a bit gun shy. Car was used in southern California and Raleigh, NC, obviously not areas of extreme wx. Thank you in advance, Ron Coalson. Email is : Race97464@aol.com (a reference to sail boat racing not auto).
Im thinking on buying a 2007 S550 with AMG package it has 179,000 miles are these cars reliable whats your opinion
That supra😍😍😍
Is it honestly the original engine? Or a replacement or rebuilt?
In Algeria you easily can find a Renault 4 with 2000000km walk around
PS : it cost you about 2000$ just like that 🐸
Entertaining video
Loved the video. I have a 3x Benz's 38yrs old 300SD 300K, 16yo E320 349,000Miles on it, and 2001 S55 AMG M113 150,000miles. I'm one of those hardcore home mechanic's, but I never opened the top end on the M112 and M113's engines. The 300SD diesel i had to perform routine valve adjustments every ~100K. None use oil. The old school OM617 diesels and M112,M113 engines are the most reliable engines every manufactured in history. The M112,M113 engines have a special silicone crystal lined aluminum cylinder/block that was polished like glass, acid etched to remove aluminum particles and leave behind only the hard silicone, then polished again. And everything else is polished and forged. all have 8Liters if oil which is probably another reason they last so long, always getting plenty of fresh cool oil. They use a sophisticated thermoconductivity sensor to monitor oil condition and tailor change intervals according to specific driving conditions, not predetermined mileage intervals. Usually my oil changes have been every 10-12K miles. They all have the 722.xxx variant 4spd (300SD) and 5spd (E320,S55) automatic transmission is also the best transmission in the world. The transmission is still built and used in many production and race cars around the world today.
Absolutely amazing!!
216000 miles on my 2006 E55, replaced an alternator, front electro hydraulic shocks, free gas tank a couple of years ago from Mercedes and free SBC pump a month ago from Mercedes. I love my beast and there is nothing out there that I want to replace it with.
First of all – thank you for your great channel! It has helped me A LOT!
I am about to buy a 160 000 miles W211 E 55 AMG. Please excuse me for the noob question, but I have no knowledge regarding cars. I just like to ride them and pay to people to maintain them.
Should I expect a loss of some HP at this stage? And if some HP are lost, can I "restore" them by changing something under the hood?
If you can wear jeans in that weather and be fine then they need to model cars cooling systems after you.
I don’t know about you, my CLS55 with renntech get better with age, like an old wine.
Is that a honest 402,000 on a original engine that's never been rebuilt? And what about the trans?
To still be on the road the car owner must have spent nearly a million dollars In repairs over time.
i love your channel so much. you always have some good content
good car
how do you pull records on a car
The owner should restore those headlight lenses. Really makes the car look like crap.
Nice to find a dyno nearby. Totally on my list to do’s.
So roughly 29 horsepower less than stock, but dynoed on a 90-degree day! I say it makes exactly the power it should. Wow I love Mercedes-Benz!
How much was the pump?
its a mercedes. the issue with these cars was never the quality, or how long it will last. its always been does the owner have deep enough pockets to keep up with the maintenance.
Fucking an believe I got e 550 whit 5.5 l v 8 I hope make so much mileage 👍
What motor oil do you use?
400k miles and the paint looks pristine.
IC pump is toast still pretty damn good for so much miles over half a million kilometer and didnt even loose 100 HK I say that is s pretty damn impressive, not try a lamp or Ferrari with same miles and see how much that have lost .Appreciate the vid really shows German quality as always on the TOP
what year is this car ?
Did it have the original transmission?? Just curious because I have an 03 with 210k on it and it runs amazing
Very Happy.
So merc lost 1 honda civic with age? 😀 😀
Some serious engineering by Mercedes!
Awesome video from another Chicago YouTubeer
$400,000 is about what it took in parts and labor to reach 400k miles. Even today -2018 – the car still looks modern. Benzos designs age well.
