I love it.. What were you thinking.. BD
Don’t do it! If you lower the rack by 1.5†you will get dreadful bump steer.
good work broo
Could do the sai delete to make more room for yourself. This comment is too late tho lol
Should have stripped it down first.
thumbs down for playing Fortnite it sux but loving the build series
Why is the Miller logo taped over on the other welder? Is a HF sponsorship coming after the new welder??? (I know I am watching this video months later)
Who is Cleetus
currently doing a build like this using the same engine but the the drivetrain from a c6 corvette in a 99 3000gt
You can damn near bolt the transmission directly to the rear diff 😂
When are you going to "Z" that frame? You have to bring the middle of the frame down level with the rockers
Im not what you call a 'gear head' or 'car guy' but these videos are very interesting. I barely watch regular TV anymore!
B is for Bump Steer…research the geometry of the steering system/suspension.
Us Mill works .com makes the best bmw plate bracket. Check em out. eBay stuff ends up scratching your bumper
Progress. Take your time. Do it right-ish. You're doing a fantastic job so far.
Dropping the steering rack is a really, really, really, really, REALLY bad idea.
My automotive engineering thesis was trying to fix the steering geometry of a Lancia 037 that was converted to 4wd hybrid (the steering rack was lowered and moved back to make space for the front motor and differential), without changing the knuckle and with very limited space to move the steering rack (millimeters) and the short answer was is not possible.
If you moove the steering rack you're going to experience sudden understeer to oversteer transition, uneven tyre wear and very bad driveability/steering feel because of bump steer and excessive toe alteration during the suspension travel.
B is for Bimmerfest!?
so, if you change the steering rack height in relation to the knuckle you will change the bump steer. it will handle differently. use a different rack, an electric rack. talk to a software guy about a reflash
Just put the 2jz from brz in there
Anyone remember where Chris got his Bluetooth to fm transmitter? I specifically want the one with the hard accent
this is wild but Id use a diff trans.
Get a smaller engine c’mon
Your bump steer would be terrible.
Your tie rod needs to have the same trajectory as your LCA or you will have awful steering characteristics.
Sweat if you had left the engine on the front subframe and see how the body sat over the engine, think about it the side rails are way too high off the ground right now . Not trying to give negative advice donut the way you are mounting the engine it's too high off the ground
I hope the insurance is going to compensate you for your lost revenue for delaying the project
Why do you have tape on the Miller 252 you don’t want to show that it’s a Miller not a harbor freight budget one ?
Can I have the old body?
B is for bump steer if you lower the steering rack
If you are ever feeling discouraged, just think, someone fit a Cummins into a miata. You can do it Chris
Add 2 inches to the frame (or more) when you adjust it. You can ad some formed metal to the body once you get there.
Lowering the steering rack will affect steering slightly and you may need longer rods. Whether it is detrimental to your driving experience I guess depends on you. You will probably have slightly reduced steering angle. You may be able to mitigate by putting a spacer, equal to the distance you lowered the rack, between the steering rod and the upright tie in point. You can do some quick trig to calculate the impact of lowering the rack on the steering otherwise.
Why don’t you run a cowl hood
I may have missed this in a
Prior video, but what’s the idea for the interior? Are you thinking raw race car inside? Or creating a sweet luxury/cool interior?
B is for boss! You sir are a boss for taking this on. Once the body, engine and suspension are located this build is going to go faster than you think. Also don’t worry about the bump steer, nothin a few dial indicators and some spacers can’t fix. Great work!
Cool…. B is for Build, featuring Chelsea!
if you move the steering rack down it could mess with the steering geometry
Hi Chris. Since you still need to change the frame rails in de cabin, isn't it an option to extend that section a bit to lengthen the front frame rails. Creating a bit more space so that the engine can sit behind the steering rack. And than you can just extend the bonnet to meet up with the cabin again. Using extra sheet metal to lengthen the front section of the car.
Bim-mur fest not beamer. Bimmer my man!
Can't you use an aftermarket ECU to control everything? That way you can have a custom steering rack without having to worry about BMW electronic crap.
Dude you gonna cut the shit out of another 240, the one you got is tweaked but hell of a lot less work than sourcing and cutting up…… You fixed the Lotus! You can fix this body……your are Chris from B is for a Build, you can fix anything!
Changing steering rack positipn will drasticly change the steering parameters and steering wheel. Bumpsteer and feel will be most affected. To get more up to speed on this, read motoiq.com articles "ultimate suspension guide"
Lowering the steering rack will induce bump steer unless you lower the arm mounting points by the same amount at the wheel end as well.
Good luck chasing your tail with this one. Every time you move something to create room you will be creating another clearance issue.
Hey Chris…. Could you say the build is off the rails? 😂 Pls get the reference
