We made our first visit to Irwindale Drag Strip for one of the test & tune nights… one of the cars that caught our attention was this unsuspecting 1970’s Jaguar XJ with a decent sized turbo and a stroked out LSx (402ci). While it’s not the quickest thing on the strip, it was pretty sweet to see this stock interior boat flying down the track!

  1. To those saying use a V12, I have two sitting on the floor here, they are as heavy as a iron BB, LS engines are lighter. They cost to much to modify, they don't have an aftermarket backup. If you want to go down that road go for it and be different that's all cool, but once you finish spending, bet you won't do it again.

  2. The thing came with a 5 litre odd V12. I'd be more impressed if they tuned that. Lister got over 700 hp out of a normally aspirated one.

  3. I see far, FAR fewer 700+ WHEEL horsepower Jaguar V12 videos floating around on Youtube. For the money the average Yank would put into making one of those fire-starting, fuel-guzzling boat anchors produce those numbers, you could build five engines similar to the "truck engine" in the Jag above. I'm far from being anti-Euro, but there is a reason Yank V8 swaps are so common in these cars.

  4. Yeah, really got the 'sleeper' thing down to a T. I mean, no one's going to think anything's up with it when there's turbo noises and a dirty V8 gurgle coming from it!

A proper Jag V12, modified, with a decent exhaust system will look, sound and be stock… whilst still being just as fast, if not faster. The Jag engine would be significantly lighter than this truck engine and turbo combo!

  5. that is the man right there, been in the game a long time.  his son is a badass as well, has a little yellow v8 turbo truck!  Both are good friends of the GN so cal club :)  Hell yea
