So – I'd imagine you could replace the engine management system with a Haltech system – it would be a total replacement of both ECUs and would need a cable harness to get the other bank of 4 working.
brrrm brrmm shes back :o)
Back on top form. Thanks big Sam
Sam please stop it with the crac 😂😂😂
Injections were the beginning of cars becoming computer controlled, now its mankinds turn, when a world cyber attack hits, all cars with ecus will stop working, now we see why they sold us ecus
I thought you would be driving it finally, what are you making us wait for?
Now its time to give it a thrash .
The APEX is good…. Very good. Too good. 🙂
The sound of that engine crank and start… without issues…after that many months…. pure ecstacy…. you just know it's a Ferrari.. when the engine has such a sweet sound 👌
Incredible dialogue!
Sam you got great content from this fefe for ever. Dont sell it.
That exact issue is also present at Alfa Romeo GTA 3.2 models. Usually happens after jump starting the car, and bricks the ECU. Is also a bosch 7.3 unit.
Believe it can be fixed by replacing a capacitor but is really hard due to the way it is built as shown in this video.
Let's ditch Sam. We want more Jose.
Replace with aftermarket ecu such as Link or Maxxecu and get online customer support, and access to most tuners.
i love how its a bosch unit.
Enjoyed the ECU repair segment. Seems like a lucrative business.
Some countries do not allow care older than 10 years old cuz of emission. Again, the world is changing really fast.
Manufacturers want you to buy a new car, not repair old. Some dealerships will not work on cars or motorcycles that are over 10 years old.
It's closure…. you can zip it up, relax and move on.
Manufacturers do not want you to repair. That is why ECU’s starting to be locked. New Corvette has a locked ECU’s
One wonders if a company like Haltech might be able to duplicate the ECU functionality.
Honest question, that car is far from being immaculate, why don’t just put an aftermarket control unit?
Awesome video, very cool to watch the test bench
Honestly, just install a Haltech. Modern solution with great tech support.
Most ECU's now use this ceramic wirebonding technique.
Almost always the aluminum bond wires fail. This is also the same in most ABS modules in every car.
The gold bond wires almost never fail, usually caused by overcurrent (something connected to wheel speed sensor ground that shouldn't be for example)
There are a couple of machines you can get to fix the bond wires but I just get in there with a soldering iron and a very steady hand and can usually repair it.
If a chip has failed then the unit is not repairable though
Sometimes capacitors can fail too but not often
Car manufactures in most countries can now get away with supporting their cars for only 10 years! Electric cars only last 5 to max 8 years! The future for classic cars is not looking good. ðŸ¤â€Â
This is the reason many people hold onto their easily repaired analogue cars.
For those who are curious about ECU testing – google Hardwafe in the Loop testing, you will see hwo to simulate the whole vehicle in close loop using real time computer and a small test bench. What they did here – they used a simple open loop to generate signals. It's enough for diagnostic use-case but for development you need a bit more))
We are a throwaway society. Things too expensive to repair out of warranty. More people with 6-7 year car payments. Car becoming too expensive to buy let alone repair. 95% of time vehicles at home or employers parking lot. Not much use and fantastic depreciation. Ride sharing and Uber more common. Less multi vehicle families
Thanks for no disturbing step mom. Keep that up might re-sub
Dealerships are using more proprietary scanners and tools which backyard mechanics will have no access or costs too high. More ECU’s will be locked from the factory. Countries outlawing new petrol engines 10 years from now. EV’s will be much more common 10 years from now. Times are rapidly changing.
Sam dod you actually finish a project? Rich is gunna lose it!
Wow what an amazing company thank you ecu
Big Dubs!
Get rid of digital and convert to analog like the good old 1960’s-70’s, cables and vacuum lines. No electronics
Great video and big kudus to Jose and team.
Many chip manufacturers will stop making legacy chips as not as profitable vs a PlayStation or apple chip with higher profit margins
sell it
More importantly, why did it fail? Is the cause eliminated so it doesn’t happen again as that’s twice now an ecu has failed.
We try to keep old Ferrari’s going but never an old Toyota. Mother Nature wants to reclaim these cars after 12-15 years. Analogue cars can be brought to life easier than recent digital cars. Legacy digital parts will make these vehicles die an early life as the costs start to skyrocket on limited production cars with just primarily oem parts. Too expensive to keep running. Wealthy always buy new, for everyone else buying as second hand still too expensive to bring life back.
Great to see. Now can you button it up, get it detailed, and make it look as roadworthy as it sounds?
Jose is an inspiration.
