The DOJ leadership "went along" with this policy and are, at best, complicit in the crimes committed against these children and their parents. Family separation is only the tip of the iceberg of abuses these poor children were subjected to– there have been reports of incidents of sexual abuse, gross neglect, medical malfeasance, and even deaths. I will never forget the videos of children literally caged inside of Walmart warehouses lying on concrete floors weeping for their mothers. The trauma these families have experienced will be lifelong. I also won't forget comments made by members of the public, "good Christian patriots" with children of their own, who willfully refused to see the humanity in people who looked different from them. It's terrifying how easily some people can lose their own sense of humanity. Quite frankly, I feel as if we've all been traumatized by the Trump era.
