On board video from Scott Palmer’s top fuel dragster making a test pass down the 1/8 mile at the Street Machine Shootout at Ozarks Raceway. This is quite the ride!

  1. I love speed, but top fuel dragsters just don't do it for me. I have to either run or ride a tricycle (bicycle are too mainstream and unicycles aren't cool enough). I mean, I personally have only 2 cylinders, which I like to call "legs," but each one puts out 9001 hp… so I can go like, infinity mph.

  2. I wonder how fast these things could really go provided the engine didn't launch itself into orbit after about 10 seconds of running wide open…

  3. @pabloultraxtreme Sorry but nope. A "Top Fuel" dragster which runs on 90% nitromethane will make at LEAST 8000hp. Top Alcohol dragsters will produce about 3000hp but Scott Palmer drives a Top Fuel so yeah… 8000 to 10000hp.

actually these engines run 1300hp if ran on alchohal, but because Nitro burns slower and contains so much more oxygen in itself the engine can be set to produce 8000+. Its really mostly the fuel, but the engineering is what keeps them in one piece till the end of the track.

  5. @kissklassics ok, i need to learn something more, the truth is that i only heard that 3000+ is the horse power of a top fuel dragster, i already knowed that those engines use nitromethane, but i didn't knowed that is the power of those engines
sorry for my bad english 🙁

  6. @pabloultraxtreme JayMark2049 had it right…these motors run between 8,500 and 10.000 horses. that's what nitromethane and great engineering will do.

  7. @TheBricecrispy I think you misunderstood me…If you build a car that will run 130mph in 660ft. NOT a 1/4 mile (1320ft) you are running the speed of a killer home built car, which should be able of running low 10's in the quarter. Most fast cars that are home built are not going to run low 10's in the 1/4 mile at 130mph. I run half the distance of a 1/4 mile car that can run 130mph-(in half the distance) same speed, only half the distance. I run on a budget, no sponcer, try a 1/8 mile-u like it

  8. @mskid68 The 1/4 mile is 1320ft. and the 1/8 mile is 660ft or exactly half the distance. I was saying that it is more fun to run 130mph in half the distance of the1/4mile. Its a bigger thrill to run 130mph in 660ft. than 1320ft. I would never stop going as fast as i could, I would love to run 300mph in the 1/4mile. I just used (130mph) for an example, because thats the best iI ever did in 660ft. (1/8 mile). Hope this explained it better.

  9. 1/8th mile racing is a bigger rush-130mph in 660ft. or 130mph in 1320ft.????Been there and done that. 1/8th mile is a bigger rush! same speed in half the distance.

  10. I feel sorry for the bug that happen to be flying arounf those exhaust pipe when that thing took off.
    or above the drivers head.
    or in the cars path.
    or on the tire.

  11. @joserumba Because these engines must be started with methanol, nitromethane is then opened, and the noise changes.
