Remembering civil rights icon Joseph E. Lowery

1. I had the privilege of Meeting Mr Lowery in 2003 . Coming from South Africa 🇿🇦 and being on tour . We attended his birthday party in October in Houston Texas and we sang the South African national anthem for him . 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

11. As an Atlanta native, Mr. Lowery is beyond an icon not only in the civil right movement but was a beloved figure in Atlanta. I’m so proud that he was a part of my city and his legacy and presence is and will forever be felt here and world wide. Thank you sir for your constant fight for justice, rest well.

36. I read Rev Lowery passed away on the weekend the other day and I was surprised he doesn’t get the recognition amongst the wider community in the USA. I’m an Australian and I had heard of him. I guess that illustrates why black history month is so crucial as so many heroes of the civil rights movement are relative unknowns.
