This is (Part 1) a Honda Element engine replacement and restoration. To say this video is packed with information would be an understatement. In addition to replacing the engine and going from an automatic transmission to a manual transmission, I also recondition the lower control arms and the valve cover. If you want to learn all about Elements and what they’re like on the inside, watch this video.

This information also applies to CRV’s of the same vintage.

  1. Maybe a topic for an ETCG1 video: How much of of the unreliablilty of certain vehicles, engines etc. is really caused by design flaws and how much is actually neglect by the owners or improper repairs. For example, the Toyota 7M-GTE Engine in my Supra is said to be unreliable and while there is an issue with the head gasket and head bolt torque from the factory, I have a feeling a lot of its reputation comes from people not equipped with the knowledge and skills to maintain the engine properly.

  2. should of swapped a tsx motor make it worth the work, another 50whp feels way better. My buddies shop Importlife performance swapped one with mild cam, intake, header and exhaust made 230whp tuned on k tuner. That's 80whp more. 😁

  3. This was me doing the rear knuckle bushings in my 97’ Odyssey, except I did it on the car, on jackstands, with the cheap power built C-Clamp tool.

4lb sledge hammers come in handy for removal 😄 when in doubt, beat it out.

  4. "90% of needed repairs are because of poor previous repair workmanship."

And the reason none of my vehicles has seen the inside of a retail repair establishment in over three decades.

  5. Get the mueller kemp bushing tool it’s amazing it’s not cheap but it is amazing

  6. Is this an Element thing? On all the FWD cars we work on/race. We leave the engine, trans and suspension attached to the subframe and raise the car around it. Without a lift it takes a bit of time (like at the track) but we have done it probably a dozen times with about half of those using jacks and jack stands.

  7. Im sorry but I was laughing my ass off when you were doing the bushings in the control arms because I've been there… All the techs in the shop are just sitting there giggling and yelling at me to just replace the control arms
