This is political deflection. We voters do not vote for the president and vice- president. Here is a further explanation of our voting problems and why, without, again, the majority vote, Trump can win the 2020 election. Our individual votes for president and vice-president really do not count.
Each state legislature determines the manner by which its state's electors are chosen. Let’s look at the numbers of party controlling the state legislature.
States that have a Republican governor and a majority of Republicans in the legislature, 21; however, you have 8 states with a Democratic governor, but, a Republican-controlled legislature. So, that is a potential of 29 state legislatures that will vote for Trump.
There are 15 Democratic controlled state governments and only 4 states with a Republican governor, but a Democratic-controlled legislature. This is only 19 state legislators that want to vote for Bidden.
Several states have passed laws against faithless electors and require electors to vote for the winner of the popular vote in their state, for the candidate of the party that nominated them to serve as electors, or in accordance with any pledge they may have been required to make at the time of their nomination. So, here already “the candidate of the party†is predominately Republican. And how many “pledges†are being made to big money ‘pacts’?
Supposedly, in states with these types of laws, faithless electors can be fined or replaced, or their votes can be nullified. However, in reality, no “faithless elector†has ever faced prosecution, and the Supreme Court has never weighed in on the constitutionality of prosecuting them. Faithless electors in the 2016 election included: 1 from Hawaii, 2 from Texas, and Four Democratic electors in Washington state did not vote for Hillary Clinton, who won the state by almost 16 points.
Electoral college is anti-democracy … replace with 1 vote for every 250,000 people that vote for candidate America wide … 2016 would be Trump 251 votes, Hilary 263 votes, Johnson 17 votes, Stein 5 votes, McMullin, 2 votes … with La Riva just missing out getting 1 vote … TOTAL 539 votes with 270 votes needed to win!
And how does the elector know for certain what the majority will of the people is? How do any of us know? By Faith I guess. Faith in precisely the people who would be in a position to pull off election fraud. Think about that. What is this really about? It might be a setup to help some people who are getting ready to employ some election fraud in a few months to be able to force the electoral college to go along with it, whether they are duped or not. And that removes that check against their power.
