Wallace guy here: Approaches two 25 y/o cops who for a good few minutes ask him to stop and drop the knife he was aggressively coming at them with. HE didn't comply. He WASNT MENTALLY ILL. I know mentally ill people and his demeanor is that of someone aggressive. A troublemaker. Not a mentally ill person.

Here’s the rule with knives during a firearm training.
If someone with a knife is within 20 feet from you, they can cover that distance in 2-3 seconds. So, they are immediately considered a potential lethal threat. You have roughly 2 seconds to decide whether you need to discharge your firearm or they’re just in crisis and not actually gonna carry out the threat.
How many of you are gonna gamble your lives over 2 seconds?

Court records show Wallace was currently awaiting trial for allegedly threatening to shoot up a woman and her house
In 2013, his mother had a protective order against him which he allegedly violated when he "threw water in her face" and "threatened to return and shoot", her, according to court records
Also in 2013, he pled guilty to assault and resisting arrest after punching a police officer in the face
In 2016, during a robbery, he grabbed a woman by the neck and held what she believed to be a gun to her head, according to court records
In 2019, he was charged with resisting arrest by "kicking the windows and door panels" of a police patrol car
His father said on air that he wont hurt a fly.

Although the man is dead and I seriously mean no disrespect, but in my country many people with knives get shot and killed by police- its a pretty normal reaction when someone is running at you with a knife. In an ideal world they shouldve used a taser, definitely. But they panicked. This is not about race this time. Rayshard Brooks was running from the cop unarmed after falling asleep at a wendys, now THAT was disgusting and pure murder. Im sorry but this just looks like self defence. Extreme, yes, a taser would have been ideal, but this was understandable on the officers part.

There's a good police breakdown video for the people who say they should've shot him in the leg, they show several vids of cops shooting suspects that are coming at them multiple times and it still didn't stop the suspects from coming at them.
