Water pump replacement DIY. Learn how to replace a water pump at home using common hand tools. I was able to easily replace this water pump in under an hour and saved $783.

Replacing the water pump on many cars is not difficult and this is a perfect example of an easy to replace water pump. You could do this entire job without any special tools and I spent under $60 in parts which is unbelievable after getting the $843 quote from the Jaguar dealership. I will also do a video on a more difficult water pump so you can see what is involved in that as well.

Thanks PEAK for the coolant product placement in this video!

  1. For daily updates, definitely follow me on Instagram: Instagram.com/ChrisFixit
The Dream Car video is coming but because it is a very special video for me, I want to make sure it is amazing, so it is taking a little longer than I thought to film and edit (you will see why when it comes out). In the meantime, I filmed and edited this water pump video to bridge the gap. I actually edited this video during my 2 week long road trip where I had meet-ups for you guys in Cincinnati, Indy, and Chicago! As always thank you for the support and stay tuneeeeeed!
P.S. Here is a link to the first every DIY video I did on my channel to help people: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTl6UNMKjLc

  2. $ 800,- is a scam. 1 hour for the worker. Less as 100$ for the part and fluids. Something around $250 – 300 would be fair price offer. But I guess they know that people are scared to DIY.

  3. Excellent video, you have a great down to earth "keep it simple" mentality. I did the pump in my wife's 2005 Yukon. The shop wanted $750 to do it. For $262 total in parts, including new thermostat, upper radiator hose and serp belt, and a few hours (my first time, I wanted to take my time and do it right) it was worth the $490 savings. It's run like a champ since, she's made several long distance trips with it and not a drop of leakage.

  4. It is no wonder Chris that these motor people don't want people doing their own repairs. Jaguar to be frank are taking the piss and this is a simple job that can be done by anyone with a few standard tools. Let's keep repairing our own stuff and keep making the videos Chris. You are a star.

  5. You should do a video on how to change an axle. My dad recently had to change the axle in his truck and the dealer said it would cost 6500$, luckily it was under warranty but it would be nice to show the people with no warranty how to change an axle. Thanks love your videos!

  6. Thank you, Chris! You have saved me thousands of dollars in repair costs over the years, and given me an education and valuable skills. This weekend, I'll tackle a water pump and power steering pump replacement. Based on the quotes I've received, I'll save about $700 on this repair alone.

  7. The only Problem is water pumps are In different locations on different cars and can be somewhat easy to super annoying and you shouldn't do something like this yourself if you don't know what your doing

  8. POV: Trying to find an informative video on how to replace your wooder pump but you find this instead 🙄

  9. Such an easy access, to that water pump, unlike most cars. I saw that you left some spillage on your drive way, antifreeze tastes sweet to dogs, but it doesn't take much to kill them by destroying their kidneys.

  10. This video helped me so much, thanks Chris! Got quoted for $675 to replace my water pump on my mustang. Spent $150 dollars on water pump, serpentine belt, coolant, and the funnel that you use in this video. Saved myself so much money! The job was easier than I thought!
