  1. Eric, You do a great job! I love all the people who throw stones, giving you advise. They are free to do it better if they can. I appreciate your advice and have learned a great deal. I'm not a paid mechanic, but I love taking things apart and fixing things for family and friends. You have a passion for this and you should be compensated. I will subscribe, you have earned it, you have saved me money and headaches. Also you cold pass for George Clooney's brother! No offense meant! Thanks!

  2. I just finished reading the 'About' section on the site. That's quite a story, quite a life. It's amazing how one thing touches another, and sometimes you don't even know it. I'm glad you found your way. All the best in the future of your endeavors… you have honest and noble goals! God Bless you. And of course I'm already subscribed.

  3. @tk0145 Compared to what you would spend somewhere to have the work done my video is a very nominal expense since just the labor alone at most places is $60 per hour or more, so for less money that you would spend on an hour of labor at a shop you could have a fastener by fastener account of how to perform the tasks in the video. YOU may not see that as a good value but I suppose I'm not selling to you as you said. BTW I have about 130 videos that are free and only 2 that I sell.

  4. @tk0145 I have a different opinion of this than you but that's OK and I don't think you have a good idea of what my overhead actually is but it's more than you estimate.

  5. @tk0145 Lets put it in perspective, how much would you spend to have the work done that is shown in those videos? How much money could you make with that knowledge if you were to use it to do work for others? And lastly how much time and effort do you think it took to make them? I'm thinking about coming up with a contest however where I will give away some ETCG stuff, if you have an idea let me know and perhaps you could get what you need for free.

  6. @duwster22 With modern cars you really can't remove key components of the emissions system as it is not only not possible but illegal in some states. Your best to repair the effected system rather than try and remove it.

  7. @mwngw As a matter of fact I have one lined up in the next couple of weeks on a Lexus. I hope she doesn't bail on me though. As for my opinion on replacing CV boots, don't bother, it's actually cheeper to just replace the axle with a reman and a torn CV boot or even a clicking axle won't stop you from getting where you are going unless you hear it clicking with the wheels turned straight ahead. I will at some point post a video of changing a boot just to have it up though.

  8. Eric…America's do-it-yourselfers need a vid on just a driveaxle replacement, due to torn cv boots or whatever. You touch on it momentarily in "Ooops…", but we really need more detail. Damn CV boots, they're the devil's weapon and stopper of vacations. Most people recommend replacing the axle shaft with reman CV joints and boots…good idea…but it looks like it's gotta be done just right. Older Toyota or Honda would be cool. Waitin' with my breaker bar.

  9. THANK YOU ERIC! The alcohol idea worked for getting my brother's car to pass smog. Tyvm. Also I solved the starting problem on my 04 GMC Canyon's Passlock 2 problem. I traded the truck for a 04 Ford Ranger lmao. Got $4k trade. The Ranger is a 3.0L Edge standard cab w/manuel trans.

  10. @Michiganborn1969 They don't want you putting the mix in on an EMPTY tank without diluting it with gas, it's not a matter of when you put it in but rather that you put it in with a full tank. I'm suggesting NOT having a full tank so that the mix is concentrated with a higher alcohol content which might make it easier to pass the test. Yes it is true you want the O2 sensors heated up so that the engine is in closed loop.

  11. I don't understand why they would have you dump the additive after you top off the gas tank and not before so that when you do fill the tank after dumping the additive you would get a good mix when your done. Also I saw on the science channel that's best to drive the vehical atleast 10 miles before the test in order to get the catalitic converter to get up to proper operating tempeture.

  12. @Michiganborn1969 No, not rubbing alcohol but the deicer that you sometimes see. This stuff is designed to run through the engine but it says you have to fill the tank up first. If you don't fill it up and go to the emissions station you might pass if you weren't too far out before.

  13. I would have to ask my brother next time I see him if the test facility gave him a printed readout. Is that just regular rubbing alcohol to put in an empty tank then fill with gas?

  14. @Michiganborn1969 Changing the octane would not do anything in my opinion. However if you ran the tank LOW and put the alcohol in it the engine might burn a little cleaner. Diagnosing emissions problems consists of compiling information form the 'big picture', it would help if I had some data to look at to give you some idea of what's going on. Did they give you a readout or did they just fail it?

  15. Hi Eric. This one is a stumper for me but I thought I'd throw it your way to see what you think. My brothers car is an 01 cavalier and he's trying to get it plated for California & in order to do so it has to pass CA smog test, it passed all but the 15MPH dyno test. He's got new plugs and tune up. I was sugested to put some ISO alcohol along with a full tank of gas but I think this will cause real problems. My idea would be to run 97 octane gas. What do you think?

  16. @missgottahav You might also look to see if there are any air leaks or intake vacuum leaks. If that's the case then it might cause the engine to "give itself gas".

  17. Great Job Eric! I'm glad to see all the stuff you have posted about Hondas, and I appreciate how you explain everything. There are A LOT of people posting similar videos but I've found your to be the most helpful. Keep it up!

  18. Thanks for that comment. I don't have anything on that belt at the moment but I'm making videos all the time and I put the requests into a file to refer back to. The downside is that I'm at the mercy of what comes into my shop so I can't always tell what video I'm going to be making next as a result. Thanks again and I'll do what I can to fulfill your request.

  19. Interesting. I'll look into it. Don't look for it anytime soon though, I have a lot of work to do to get these full length videos to you.

  20. nice! i hope the best for you.
i got an idea might be dumb but what if we can upload pics of cars you help us on, on to your site?
