3. My ex was an alcoholic and ruptured his esophagus from throwing up due to acid reflux caused by the alcohol.
   Caused blood to aspirate into his lungs.
   He contracted pneumonia, lost consciousness in the middle of the night from lack of oxygen, and was taken to the ICU and placed under a medically induced coma for a week- spent another 2 weeks in the hospital in recovery.

   Alcoholism is a monster that will eat you from the inside out.
   I'm sending my best thoughts to those struggling with this disease.

6. I went to the ER a few months ago with severe gastritis. I have chronic IBS that sometimes leads to intense stomach pain, but it had never been that bad before. Point being, this poor vet is absolutely suffering. I know that pain.

19. Too many veterans are suffering in the streets, it's a big problem. This paramedic had doors opened for him. But that's his experience. All the military in my family did really well and had great opportunities, but it isn't for everyone and the ones who come back and need help tend to be forgotten, which makes me sad. 🙁

27. This man served in the 82nd airborne division and was a Ranger. Its so sad to see such proud, strong and most disciplined soldiers end up in such bad situations. I have the upmost respect for the Rangers and Ranger regiment.

41. he may have been a vet, but he wasnt a ranger, he said 82nd. 82nd has Airborne, but not all of the 82nd is Airborne qualified, and none of the 82nd must pass Ranger School (RASP) to be in the 82nd. The 82nd is the US Army’s conventional Airborne light infantry Division.
    
    U.S. Army Rangers, however, are Airborne Rangers. Part of the 75th Ranger Regiment, they are all Airborne Qualified, but also must pass RASP. They are the Department of Defense’s, and the US Military’s most elite light infantry unit in the world, and are under the command of the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

    So, in short, all Rangers are Airborne, but most 82nd are not Rangers. However, quite a few 82nd go on to become Rangers, and the 82nd is chock full of soldiers that have gone to RASP, and some have passed and some haven’t.

44. Veterans shouldn't be homeless…I knew a guy who was really messed up after his service…but our city's Veterans society wouldn't provide him with the resources he needed. He tried to get counciling but they turned him away. Actual quote I heard over the phone "Sir there are other people with more advanced cases of PTSD who need the resources." I felt sick just listening to it…then he shot himself a few days later. Thank God he survived but he shattered part of his jaw, lost most of his teeth, and had skull fractures…He was comatose for a few days then woke up, but it was too much stress on his healing body. They put him in a medically induced coma for a month. Since then he has had surgery to repair damage, he's deaf on the right side, he has sight problems on one side but I can't remembered which, he now uses dentures since he lost 90% of his teeth, and now he's finally getting psychiatric help….all of this could have been avoided if he had goten help before he felt so low in life he shot himself. The tragic thing is this is not an isolated incident, nor is he the only person to have something like this happen. Our Veterans fought for us, now it's time we fight for them.
