Learn how to turn off your airbag light and fix a horn that doesn’t work by replacing your clock spring. Replacing a clock spring is very simple, saves us over $600 and takes less than an hour. I will show you how to safely remove the airbag and steering wheel so you can replace the clockspring at home using common hand tools.

To figure out I had a bad clock spring, I used an obd2 scanner to scan the airbag light and got codes b1801 and b1811 which is an open squib circuit, which means the clock spring is bad. Another way to tell the clock spring is bad is the horn doesn’t work and/or the steering wheel buttons don’t work.

  1. Hey Chris !

I have a 2015 q50 and my push to start button doesn't work unless I bring the key to the button and then press the button. My airbag light is on and my question is… Can the clock spring affect to push to start function?

  2. I have a quick question. I have this same problem with the airbag light on my 2007 buick lacrosse. I have been trying to find a replacement clock spring for the part on my car but I can not find it anywhere. Are clock springs this hard to find or am I doing something wrong.

  3. Hey I have a question my horn works and every button works on my 2008 mazda 3 but the airbag light is still on could that be the only problem or is there more
    Thanks 👍

  4. Hi Chris i have a Code: C1231 Steering Angle Sensor Circuit popped up on my 2009 Venza after replacing the Steering Rack, although the centering of the rack was way-off. so After i took it in to a dealership for alignment, i still notice the traction and VSC light is still on….then i tried using my OBD Scanner to clear it still it won't go away then i drove down to the dealership same thing they could not clear it. I then perform zero calibration on it still the VSC light won't disappear….Pls what else can i do? Thanks

  6. Hi Chris, Thanks for building our trust and educate the masses! Can I ask: Why do you remove the negative connector from the battery and not the postive? Isn't that where the power comes from?

  7. Whole car catches on fire

  8. This is helpful.
Question for those who know, do you have to change a clockspring if the car has been in an accident that set off the airbag?

  9. @ChrisFix – Would this clock spring problem do the opposite with the horn? where it will sound off on its own without you pressing it? I am having this problem. I unplugged my horn at the grill to make it stop and I have an airbag light. But yea, my horn had the problem of not shutting off.
