  1. hi eric,, why did you change out the rack? when I drive mine it seems stiff , at freeway speeds I'm constantly correcting the path,, seems to not come back to center,, as if I were to turn to the right softly it will just keep going ,, same in either direction ,, constantly correcting the path ,, at 70 it feels like I had been drinking too much ,, wandering from the right side of my lane to the left over and over ,, I just removed the lower intermediate shaft and it seems ok ,, this is my first 4runner ,, and it isnt a one hand on the wheel easy comfortable ride , its a constant correction in trajectory,, so i have the truck up and the shaft off and I am wondering if thats why you changed out yours

  2. You may have replaced tie rod ends and tie rods with inner axial joints but still feeling a knocking or play in the steering, well the steering rack end bushing is the cause for many steering rack replacements. If you need a low cost solution to restore your rack to its former self you can find it here: https://dabstercar.com

  4. omg. I recently installed a remanufactured rack in my daughter's Subaru. It came with inner tie rods installed. Now I am worried it may not have locking rings at the inner tie rod end.
Looks like the same remanufacturing brand.

  5. the 04 and older 4runner and Tacoma design is much easier to do this job on. The rack is behind the axle on those.

  6. Very nice video. I was able remove and install without removing the rack and pinion ends or the oil filter cooler. I did however need to remove the tie rod ball joint ends.

  7. How long can I ride on a bad rack and pinion? Been doing it for 5 years 100k plus lol I mean I'm not loosing power steering fluid. It drives and steers fine even alignment on point. I do hear very minor noise when parking or backing up( you wont hear unless you really listen ) etc which got little worse over years also boot is torn I got about 255k on my camry don't want to put money into it besides that car good mechanical condition any advice? I wanna make this car last without doing unnecessary work $$ save money

  8. haha I went through the exact same procedure at work on a 2010 today, except with the oil cooler you have to remove the compressor. fight continues tomorrow morning, thanks for the video

  9. buen travajo amigo creo que  con ste video yo lo are la proxima ves  tengo casi todas esas erra mientas

  10. great video,is a mondeo mk2 v6 2.5 steering rack change one of the bad ones to do,looks like it is.cross member looks like it has to drop to get the job done.thanks best regards.from Ray..

  11. i will replace the steering rack of my sister's toyota gaia next friday and this video gives me to many informations and techniques, thanks for tha big help, more power eric

  12. Eric just got done viewing your video on steering rack replacement Toyota 4 runner enjoyed it totally very cool.  Now on to repair project 2 is there any help you might have for me regarding a 06 PT Cruiser timing belt having a heck of a time getting it aligned right. Thought I had it once but was off a tooth its killing me

  13. good job on the 4 runner. The easiest way to remove sector shaft from rack on these 4 Runners is to loosen the drivers side nut and bolt that secure the rack to slide the rack forward about an inch. That way you don't have to air hammer the shaft to slide it up off the rack.

  14. Mine is waiting to be changed, I can see the inner-tie-rod since the wheel aligner refused to change the slip boot. 2 years. now its full of dirt. Only $400 for a recon rack.

  15. if uf can tellme all the posible leaks on power steering ?? and when i turn the steering wheel side to side the engine loose power then shutdown i have a toyota 1994 t100 v6 if you can help me i looking for the cover diagram panel fuse to see what are the right fuses..

  16. In my experience, the best way to bleed a power steering system is to fill it up, start and stop the engine, top ut the oil, start and stop, top up, turn steering wheel 10 times to both sides while engine is off, check the oil level, start the engine and let it run while turning the wheel.

  17. Great Video Eric, I need to replace my steering rack on a Toyota Prado here in Australia and after watching your video it seems less daunting. I just looked under my car and WOW! Everything looks easy and more accessible than in your video,

  18. @EricTheCarGuy i once learned about that SRS airbag connection the expensive way (on a Volvo 940), oh well..

  19. @EricTheCarGuy Congrats on getting the job done, but as a Toyota tech, can I make a suggestion to save you time? Remove the engine mounts from the frame (one bolt and one nut, 14mm each side) and jack up the engine a couple inches and remove just the oil filter (not the cooler) and you won't be fighting anything nor will you have to remove the inner tie rods. Good video, you have a new subscriber here!
