Belt squeal, squeaky belt, or belt noise? Learn how to quiet a squeaky belt in your car.
I show you how to temporarily quiet the belt using WD40 so that you can drive to the parts store without the annoying squeal. The serpentine belt in your car powers the accessories such as air conditioning, power steering, the alternator, fan, and waterpump. There are three types of serpentine belt wear, pilling, glazing, and abrasion. Pulley wear will cause your pulley to squeak. A worn out pulley bearing or a worn spring in the tension pulley can also cause squeaking.

  1. Just a quick bit of information, I personally wouldn't recommend using WD40 or any amount of lubricant on a serpentine belt because the belt needs tension to function correctly. If you lubricate the belt, yes, it will stop the squeak, but it will not only cover up the problem instead of fixing it, it may lead to a larger problem (belt may slip off).

Anyways, to each is their own, if you REALLY want to fix a squeak go for it. Just be careful 🙂

  2. A belt transfers power through friction. If friction is reduced, power transmission is also reduced. This can cause overheating (slow water pump or fan), insufficient AC, insufficient charging or electrical power, loss of power steering.

A belt makes noise when misaligned or slipping.

Lubrication just causes the slipping to increase and usually drives any noise up in frequency so we don't hear it. Lubrication is counterproductive in any belt type friction drive. Belt dressings are usually either an adhesive formula to increase friction temporarily or a lubricant. Neither one fixes the problem and usually end up making a mess to be cleaned up.

  3. If I’m not mistaken, this is THE shortest vid you have ever uploaded. Way to go..!👍

  4. That is not ok to do there's always a reason for the squeal by putting wd-40 on the belt could cause belt slip and could lead to the power steering to not function properly and alternator not charging the battery properly.

  5. I try to remember to spray my belts twice a year. Keeps them from drying out. I have never had to change a belt.

  6. I have a Kia Rio 5 that needs a new power steering belt but I'm used to working on a Dodge that I used to have and you can basically sit down right next to the motor in a Dodge ram lol with this little rice burner I got they don't give you any room you damn near have to take the whole car apart just to change the belt

  7. I would like to ask if this removes leaked power steering fluid from the drive belt ??? My compressor drive belt squeaks due to contamination by leaked power steering fluid. I have already fixed that leak. But there's a handful of fluid left on the belt and pulley, and it's still noisy. I'd like to know if wd 40 would solve that permanently, and hopefully remove all the fluid left in there???

  8. Hey chris my belt start squealing immediately after i washed my engine with simple green….did i not rinse it well enough or did the simple green dry the belt out?

  9. 😃😃😃😃

  10. my 4 pk 1210 serpentine belt was squeaking at some point. The mechanics said it was normal. And I had it replaced by a friend who is a mechanic and it stopped squeaking. I use a product named belt conditionner by abro. Now and then.

  11. I sprayed WD40 on my Ex misses, and she went away 🤪🤔⁉️😂🤣

  12. That’s not a proper advice. Wd40 contains oil which is harmful to rubber elements. I thought everyone knows that…..,

  13. WD-40 makes the noise worse because it adds the slippery. Any kinds of Rubber treatment liquids are working.

  14. This fucked my belt, it stopped the squeak for a day and the next day it’s spastically flipping around
