Replacing Lower Control Arm and Ball Joint. Learn how to replace a lower control arm with the lower ball joint. I show the process in a 95 ford windstar but it is similar in many different makes and models. This is a single arm control arm with a strut bar for support. A wishbone lower control arm will be similar minus the strut bar.

So I just learned today that my car needs 2 lower control arms and a tie rod.
The shop I went to for an alignment before he showed me that the problem was actually worn out parts and not a bad alignement charges me 700$ per lower control arm and 70$ a tie rod.
I found lower control arms online for 350$ each and a tie rod for 40$, all OEM. So I think I'm just gonna do the job myself. I already do my own oil change and tire change thanks to Chris, so it's time to go a step further and save about 1300$, including labor cost.
Thats a super clean 95 windstar man looks new!
Very helpful, thank you
Wow I appreciate this so much and I’m subscribed
This is a great video. Simple to follow, clear and informative. Thank you.
My dealer said it would cost 1250 AUD plus labor to replace the lower ball joints on my car.
Following your instructions I reckon I could do it myself for a fraction of the cost.
Thank you!!
so long ago, back in the good old days when they called them 'closed-end' wrenches instead of 'box-end' wrenches, like we do now. good vid ; >]
How do know to torque it 46 to 52 and 85 to 97 please explain it
Chris..i need to eventually change control arms of my mercedes tie rods included. Steer shakes with a little occasional noise. My question..can i push this off for say 3weeks until i replace them? Using backroads for now and driving gently ..espeacially when i make turns. Im i good
Mechanic tried charging me 1200$ to do this job! 1k if I used a credit card from the store.
thanks chris fix, i will change my lower control arm this weekend, thanks for the detail video and like the note about test driving then re torque.
How do I know if its the Rack and Pinon or the Control Arm Bar?
Thanks Chris fix. Just watched your videos and am getting ready Question: I'm getting ready to do the whole front end inner ,outer ,upper lower ,ball joint tie rod ends, do you recommend a specific order to do the jobs thanks!
I changed my upper, lower control arms, upper ball joint ,sway bar links and lower control arm bracket on my 2007 trailblazer. Now I have one tire facing inward while the other tire is straight. What could have gone wrong and a possible fix?
Use a rubber mallet instead of a hammer. Less risk of damaging anything
can you the same video using a g6 or malibu or saturn
Chris does a bad lower control arm make your steering wheel misplaced
Gracias por tus videos
Thank you for the film. I need to change bushing on the outer edge of the Lower Control Arm in the car 2001 Saturn SL2. I ordered a new bushing for that model, but it is only rubber bushing, no central bolt inside (in many films they show the bushing with that bolt). For that car I couldn't find a bushing with the bolt. Is it difficult to replace the old bolt into the new bushing? They sell that bushing, so it should be possible, but I didn't see any film on that particular operation. The bushing is on Amazon: MOOG K8436 Lower Control Arm Bushing. Of course I could just change the Lower Control Arm, but not in a mood to do that, bcs not quite ready now to go to the local shop to surrender in the case of failure.
Is this on a Chrysler 300m by chance?
I hit a curb and my tire is pushed back now can someone tell me what they think it is I need to replace?
