This 2007 Subaru Outback showed up with a few problems, one of them was a check engine light. The codes were P0137, P0037, and P2096. They all related to the secondary O2 sensor. In this video I show the procedure I went through in order to diagnose and repair these codes. All you need is a scanner and a DVOM. So, if you have a vehicle with a CEL, even if it’s not a Subaru, you can use the information in this video to help resolve the problem. Here are some other videos you might find helpful.

Hi Eric do you have a link for the diagnosis that can tell if there power in the sensor
Excellent excellent educational videos.
Thanks for your time efforts and filming.
Hey Eric , would somehow finaglen a healthy shot of laqour thinner of something of the like in the open hole forward of the catt be a winning move? Instead of running that crap thru the engine? Kinda drop the kids off at the pool ? Just blow it right out I’m thinking ? Kinda a Kilmer deal with a twist ,know what I mean? I’m gonna hold out for your input b4…… thanx in advance
Eric I would love to hear your opinion about working on this particular model. And year I happen to own. One of these o sevens. And I found that my 02 Impreza. Was Far easier to work on this one? In fact, this one has been kind of a nightmare. As far as space goes. And just the layout of everything. . Even changing the oil can be a bit of a bitch. Because of the location of the filter I was just wondering if you had any thoughts. on your own on that Maybe I'm looking for validation. I don't know.
Love your videos, ive learned alot from watching you. have a similar issue with a 99 suburu legacy, Error code indicates low voltage and it loses power uphill specifically. unfortunately it is the only working vehicle and I need to figure out if my resolution is the same as yours.
Great video. Easy to follow. Thank you for not trying to do the job AND hold the camera with the other hand……. drives me nuts.
This is my exact car. Down to the color and trim. Great video!
The first time i took the forester in for the diagnosis they cleared it and the engine light come back on with in 20 kms before i had the 02 sensor replaced. Now that the 02 sensor was replaced the engine light has not come back on.
For my 02 sensor in Australia for subaru forester 2011 cost $308 for diagnosis + $822 for the genuine 02 sensor……..well that's what they claimed …….either way still a fucken rip-off.
EricTheCarGuy I have a 05 Subaru Forester and going to use my ohmmeter when I travel back home. Great tips in saving time.
Good tip on cutting the wires to remove the old sensor. Same reason a crow's foot would work well only to install the new one.
I just gave my son a ratchet just like that one that I used for like 20 years or more. I recently got the locking flex head version.
rharley5652 The Oxygen Sensor Heater
The fact people call these "heaters" is confusing to me. I've changed a few O2 sensors before. Didn't even know their function had anything to do with "heating"…
If I heard someone say "heater failure" in relation to automotive I'd think it was their heater core/car heating wasn't working.
could anyone post the link of the sensor used here?
Eric .thanks for this.you are the best
Man, thanks for the pro tips! Your Experience shows!
Your eyes have turned mighty red sir….. ;D
Isn't that WAY too much anti-seize? It's gonna push down the threads, heat up from the pipe and drip into the sensor.
my brothers 2010 Outback and showing codes p2096 and p0172 so could it be 02 sensor ? lean/rich same bank? thanks.
How many miles was on that 2007 Subaru? I have a p0420 error code with Cruise control flashing and traction control light on.
p2096 bank 1 sensor one first ? diagnostic sensor?
Hey Eric can help me with my subaru legacy 2004, it shows er pd. What deas that mean?
What should the temp gauge read on a2007 Subaru outback 2.5 l . Mine is at the half way point . Is that good or do I have to start worrying about over heating ?
I wonder if its just better to replace both sensors being they are the same age?
Eric, I so appreciate your mechanical skills, as well as your communication skills and consideration of the viewer.  Great Camera Person!
Just what I needed to see.
Glad to see you video thanks for show
Hey Eric, I'm looking at changing the upstream o2 sensor on the same car, would you use the same tools (swivel extension bar etc) to remove this one….as it appears to be placed rather awkwardly? Thanks for your help in advance.
Dude, you are the man ! You made this so easy to do. I love it when you make it so clear and simple. So many you tubes are so full of BS and confusion. Keep it up. You just saved me tons of money. I wish I could buy you lunch !
Thanks for the Video.
U .can take that 02 sensor from the side just take tire off .No need that work
