This 2001 Saab 9-5 came in with just about every light lit up on the dash. The first code I pulled was a P1625 for the CEL which indicates a communication error between the ABS unit and the PCM. After looking into this code I found out this is a common problem with these Bosch ABS units. Rather than purchasing a new unit however I decided to send the existing ABS unit off to BBA Remanufacturing for remanufacture. Some of these units require that you pair a new unit up with the PCM, mine was one of those so sending off my existing unit made the most sense because if I had just gotten a remanufactured one I would have had to program it to work with the cars PCM. This took a bit longer but it saved me quite a bit of trouble in the end. Here are some useful links mentioned in the video.

  1. Wait, you didn't have to reset "Check Engine" manually? I've got the same issue since yesterday on my B308. The only fault is B1705 (Faulty Speed Signal), the ABS-Sensors do give plausible signals, but the speedometer doesn't work. Guess it has to be the electronical part of the ABS-system, right?

  2. Hey Eric. Great video. My Saab has been down for months with a bad turbo. Sitting killed the battery and when I put in a new one, the dash board lit up! Only difference for me is that the brakes also are locked up. do you think this procedure will solve that too?
    Thanks

  3. Is this part married to the compiter in the car or could you use a replacement or junkyrad part. Also would this make the speedometer not work.

  4. Hey Eric, I had the same issue in my 2002 Aero manual and I have repaired the ABS module however I still have TCS and brake controls on. Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Many thanks for you videos and support 🙂

  5. WARNING. BBA Reman in the UNITED KINGDOM (whom i did previously use and respect alot in the past) went into liquidation last year November 6th 2019. However the website is still misleadingly live. The Phone number is still misleadingly live (and when answered the staff are happy to allow you to think you are talking to BBA when in fact the company you are speaking to is BLACK BOX Electronics who also still use the BBA payment machines and their BBA UPS account for collections & deliveries.) Black box was formed by the uk director of the Liquidated BBA Reman uk Mr Swan on the 7th of November 2019. So far the "new" company (misleadingly operates from the same BBA premise, have a very poor workmanship standard and after sale customer service, Just search the comments from customers on google forums. If you are thinking of using BBA OR Black Box save yourself time and trouble by keeping your non functional part in a box under your bed for 5 to 8 months & also instead just set fire to £100 plus out of your own pocket. the result will be the same but less stressful for you.

  6. Ничего не понял.
А что блок привязывать техом не надо?

  7. Eric I am looking to replace my module (swapped car needs a manual pump versus the automatic one) do you have any videos on how to replace the module? it's a 05 subaru sti, thanks

  8. How do you know that the connectors weren't simply dirty with corrosion? You unplugged them and then sent the unit off, but if it were corrosion, then just the act of unplugging the unit and then plugging back in again might have cleaned them enough to fix the issue. Perhaps the unit was fine all along? You didn't test for that, but you should have.

  9. Just had mine rebuilt by BBA and they have gone up to $155 shipping included. Waiting to get it back to put her back on and hope it's fixed.

  10. We had the same problem on our 2001 9-5 and our garage totally let us down so we had to pick up our car unrepaired. Your video was a great encouragement and guidance to tackle the problem ourselves and to fix it.

Apparently the mass cable within the ABS control unit was broken – according to BBA Reman the most frequent fault of this series.

Being pretty unexperienced in car DIY, we took about an hour and a half to take the control unit out – partly because in some steps you said "… and then this comes off" and we needed a while to figure out how.

Still – an hour and a half was less than two wasted trips to our garage and back for taking the car there and fetching it again – so whenever anything else crops up on our car, we'll first check if you have a solution on offer.

A big Thank You from Berlin, Germany!

  11. Would this work with a Saab 93 1.9 sport tid 06 that won’t rev over 3000rpm as I got a code telling me it’s manfacturer control an it’s saying my abs/tcs/esp

  13. I just did mine. Your video was super helpful. I did remove the fuse box fasteners and lifted it. Made accessing the torx fasteners much easier. I used BBA Reman and all the lights are off. All systems GO!

  14. @ericthecarguy
long time viewer, thank you for everything. quick question was it confirmed that you can drive the car without the abs module? thanks again!!

  15. hi eric..i got issue with my toyota passo 2007..i replaced both rear tyre wheel sensors since scanner come with code…but didnt fix the problem..then i replaced abs whole unit…still i got left rear sensor abnormal code and abs light on…then i checked the input voltage to both rear sensors one says 2.9v and one says 11 volt??? please help what caulb be issue….or wiring diagram help please

  16. Thanks for posting these vids. I have an issue my my 04 saab, it has the check engine light on with the codes P0201- 0204. I've been told the ECU is bad. Can the place that fixed the ABS unit also work on the ECU unit?

  17. I had that same problem but it was the abs sensor lines in the front both of which were cut in half fixed the wires problem solved Saab 9-5 aero

  18. Good info many thanks. Subbed.
I am thinking about buying a 1999 9-5. Runs ok. I will get a mechanic to give it a once over. 160,000klm on it. Anything I should double check?? Timing belt or do they have a timing chain??

  19. I have a Saab 9-3 2001 .. I had the abs control module replaced. Obviously I didn't have a reader to program it. so I had it fixed. I installed the module and now my speedometer works and the car went out of limp mode. But I'm still having the ABS light, TCS, and the big triangle over the speedo. Is it possible I have a bad wheel speed sensor or did I get a screwy repair to my module.

  20. Please I need some help I had this problem in my car so i got a abs module from a used parts shop that "works" and i changed it out but i still have the lights but no check engine light could it be air in the brake system? or could it be a bad abs module that i got?

    Problems I had
I would start the car no lights only check engine then i would drive and after a little the lights come on and the speedo stops working then I turn off car and start it speedo works no light only check engine then it comes on again. With the "new" abs module the ABS BRAKE and ! sign or on but no check engine.

  21. this video helped me fixes the problems with my 2001 SAAB 9-3 SE the mechanic could not find. Now I just have to find the where the wires are plugged into on the other end to get it plugged in to the ABS Module….. Thank you as Much..

  22. My 03 is doing the same thing!!!! Was the speedometer not working when those lights when on? I wasn't really worried about it till my brakes started not wanting to work because of it…. = I was looking at the bba, the price is no longer 78 bucks…. They now want 115+15. Still not too bad.

  23. شكرا شكرا تماام يا حبيب
