While shooting the Sonoma engine video series I needed to remove a couple of studs from the old cylinder head. I often use this ‘2 nut method’ to do this. I thought I would make a separate video showing this process. You can also use special sockets for this but if you don’t have one of those, this method will work just fine. I think it would be prudent to thread that first nut down as far as you can beforehand in order to reduce the amount of torsional stress on that old stud. The longer the stud being twisted the more you are stressing it. Good luck if you break one on the way out.

yeah i tried that im trying to get a broken bolt out and i put 2 nuts on it and it just pushes the front nut off taking all the thread on the bolt with it

This worked perfect  for me on removing exhaust manifold studs. Got the idea from this video.  It saved me from having to unbolt the Cat and possibly breaking the studs off the Cat.  I did this on a 2004 Aveo. ÂÂÂ

People who bought the special tool just before watching this. Lol.
@daryl bull you get a stud/screw extractor. Its like a screw with a left hand thread. Drill a small pilot in the stud then screw in the extractor. Once it starts to bite it should bring out the stud. If it ose totally seized in there, you may need to drill it out and re-tap.

Quick question: When you thread it into the new engine do you bottom out the threads? In other words, do you thread in the stud until it stops? I've heard conflicting opinions on the subject of threading in studs. I would appreciate if you could shed some light on this subject.
