  1. I can't tell and never have been able to. I have used Samsung smartphones as my main since ether very first Galaxy S, and others for Dev stuff from Huawei, OnePlus and and Google. I would be willing to bet that 95% of users wouldn't be able to tell the difference, especially on a screen this small.

  2. On smartphones, anything higher than FHD doesn't really make much difference. Even when I compared the Sony Xperia 1 ii and Sony Xperia 5 ii when watching 1080p video, I really cannot tell any difference at all. It's the same story with high refresh rate – higher refresh rate does make sense for mobile gaming, but in real world use? Why bother.

  3. I just purchased a brand new phone through TMobile and it's absolutely incredible. Paid $300 and it's got an amazing camera (4 of them actually) and 128 gb of internal storage, supports 5g AND came with a free YEAR subscription to McAffee security for mobile.. I can stream in 4k and lemme tell ya, after watching yt in 720p for the last several years the jump in quality is jaw dropping. YES it 100% makes a giant difference. Check out TMobile stores guys, they have insane deals rn.

  4. I can't even spot the difference between HD+ and FHD despite being side by side lol. I played a 1080p video in both phones and personally my 720p device produced better video quality.

  5. The fact that I looked this up is reason enough I can’t tell a big difference from a smartphone, TVs and monitors are night and day but small devices it’s like almost unnecessary to have something more than 1440 really full hd+ I could live with lol

  6. I did this test with my phone and immediately could tell the difference.

1080 put more strain on my eyes when it came to reading. It may be subtle, but 1440 just added that extra clarity to text that I absolutely need. Sucks because I tried so hard to go back to 1080 for the 120hz… just couldn't do it. I'd rather have that extra clear screen than smoother scrolling.

Seems like it depends on the person and the content they consume.

  7. Should I use WQHD, or FHD on my galaxy s10?
FHD is still fine, but does the highest resolution drain the battery faster?
Edit: my phone came out of the box FHD, since I've only seen that, I notice the switch

  8. Not sure if this is the best test we could do.

Both phones are QHD displays…its just one of them are rendering at 1080p…but both still scaling at 1440p.

I think a better test is use an actual 1080p phone then compare it to an actual 1440p phone.

  9. On my Samsung S9plus,the only obvious difference is the shapress of the texts. In QHD,the texts became sharper and in FHD,the texts seem like bolded.I cant find any other differences

  10. My current phone has a FHD display and my previous phone had a QHD display. Even when I put them side by side, you can't tell which display is sharper. The only thing the side by side comparison highlights is the slightly higher refresh rate of my new phone.

  11. Ok this could be just me but i handed my brother my s20 and asked him to set any resolution between 720 to qhd. I tried 3 times and couldn't tell the difference. 🥵

  12. 720p looks much better on qhd than fhd and i have never looked back(internet speed issues) and evenjust going around navigating the phone, when i put 1080p i feel like everything is blurry..

  13. I enjoy the xperia devices. Own a xz2 premium and it's only flaw was the battery life and charging port that only works with whatever charger sony sent with the device. So I jumped to OnePlus for the battery life and charging abilities. Screen is ok but isn't the xperia for sure. But I patiently waiting for a xperia device with 5000mah with 40w fast wired and wireless charge , 4k screen & HDR video recording and editing. Could be waiting awhile 🤷🏻‍♂️ but I vote for 4k screens for the flagships

  14. I have the Galaxy S20 and I wish that Samsung would with give a quick toggle to go between QHD+ and 120hz refresh instantly depending on if you scrolling apps or watching video instead of having to go directly into display settings if you wanna switch

  15. I tried setting the rez down on my S20+ so I could use the 120hz mode, but to be honest, I have sharp eyes and resolutions lower than the native resolution always seem a bit blurry to me. It wouldn't even be a problem if the native resolution was FHD+. Meh.

  16. Some people are more sensitive to resolution, others to fps. For exemple, between 90hz and 120hz display I don't notice a differance, but between my 516ppi screen and my girlfriend'S 560 ppi it's day and night!

  17. Complete bs because I can tell the difference and if I'm buying a flagship I demand the absolute peak of innovation not a shitty iPhone xr 720p rebranded "high resolution" display

  18. having a 1440 panel.
setting it down to 1080 via software does nothing to save battery life.
but having a true 1080p panel certainly help to save some battery life .

  19. Did not expect this from Android authority.
Telling us to turn off the fanboy for a little bit when some people can clearly discern between 1440p and 1080p in things like looking at photos, videos and icons. And no, battery doesn't make a world of difference, you can actually notice much better if the phone has 1440p turned on by using the screen and looking at it, than by noticing it lasted less 7 minutes than it usually does with 1080p on…

  20. I came from a 1440p+ display Smartphone and now I have a Full HD + on my Mi 10 and I cannot find anything wrong with it, It doesn't feel like I down graded. FHD is better as it is easier to drive which help improve the performance and battery life.

  21. I dont know why, but I can feel an overall improvement while using a 1440p panel at 90hz than a 1080p panel at 90hz.
I think the size of the screen matters…
user's could feel the difference if we are speaking about tablet screens

  22. so if i mostly keep my phone on around 10-20% brighness is this even relevant?
and dare i say, can i get away with keeping my phone on 720p? xD

  23. Doing regular UI things, you don't see a difference but there's a difference in gaming quality and watching videos especially in YouTube. I see a difference..because so called "smartphone users" can't see it doesn't mean its useless. I love and use it.

  24. I just came to the conclusion that I'm turning off my QHD+ on my Note 10+. I have 20/20 vision and can't tell a difference other than batter life suffering.

  25. Even if the difference isn't super apparent, for the price that I'm paying for the phone nowadays, I want the option of quad hd.
