This was one of the most difficult videos I’ve ever produced. Shooting took 4 days over 2 weeks, the edit took over 40 hours, and at the end, there was still an exhaust leak as well as other issues with the vehicle. That said, I think this is one of the best ETCG videos as far as content and production is concerned.
I’m told this isn’t a common issue on these engines. However, the information in this video can and will apply to other makes and models with similar issues.
Thanks for watching.

Engineers: Making everything complicated since the dawn of time!
Oh and I just dealt with the same GM broken manifold bolt, drilling into the water jacket on my 6.0L this past summer. I'm still trying to get it to seal completely. Wants to leak just enough to piss me off.
Thats not a broken bolt in the engine mount, its a stud on a head bolt that the bracket sits on. Wiggle and up- there are two bolts. One on top And one under where the ac was
I watched the complete show and said, “I hope I never have to do that repair?â€ÂÂ
Guess what? My Chevy uplander has the same bolts broke so watching your video prepared me immensely for the task at hand.
Fantastic video, this made my repair, that ended up being exactly like this, so much easier. Thanks Bunches!
We have a Chevy venture with a exaust break and its the 3.4 v6 it sounds like a funny car and its fast as hell yes it is stock we beat a brand new 5.0 mustang why do ppl hate on the venture its powerful as all hell stock and its the 1999 venture it revs up in about 1 second I love this van
No they don't shitty design is the problem Toyota Honda engineer their cars better that'sâÂŒ🙄thats all their is to it
I have a exhaust leak on a 84 oldsmobile cutlass 3.8 swappend exhaust manifold plus dounuts, and leak still, i check for cracks on the manifold or pin holes but nothing as i put it in gear it sounds loud
Eric's favorite car
It's real easy to break a manifold bolt I pull my engine out remove the heads went to remove the exhaust manifold broke three bolts off I found one broke off behind heat shield I didn't Hammer the bolts out the job this guy doing is a pain in the ass
I'm going to warn you do not get this engine overheated I'm rebuilding my motor right now took engine block to a good machine shop he builds Sprint car racing motors he warned me about the cam bearings there's not a lot of stock holding them bearings in that engine block you get that engine too hot you can spin a cam bearing mechanics think that's bulshit wrong I'll say this to you got one that runs fine 200000 miles give it to somebody else the cam bearings are shot mine were completely worn out I had clean oil in engine the rod and main bearings look like new can bearings wear wore out some of you are thinking you blow a head gasket before that nope just be warned don't get that engine hot keep that antifreeze spotless I would. Change it annually if the antifreeze gets acidic your aluminum head will act like a lead battery plate your head will corrode away I've seen that in big block Ford engine Expedition you got Factory antifreeze in there when the warranty runs out get a different brand
Just thinking the labor is more then this car is worth, even in 15’. Also maybe cut bit short so drill chuck bottoms preventing over drilling
And not one swear word…. ??? Lol
Everytime I see an GM it makes me cringe that I imagine when its time for repair who ever is the owner or the guy will work on in is gonna be hehehe Fucked!!!!
That why I hate GM when it comes to ingenuity they make everything difficult but don't get me wrong they are made tough but again problem is at the end of the day when it broke and you have to fix it your self it's a big deal.
Anything exhaust manifold with engine in car is like a near guarantee of a shitty day.
Well.. Bye bye my 3.4 impala, you are not worth it..
Hello future Toyota or honda
This is just horrible to work on. And especially when the custome doesnt care of their pos car. Those leaves on the plastic cover below the windshield and that old rusty gross engine bay had me cringing.
Not sure if this repair is deserving of copious amounts of cash, beer and a medal or a well placed stick of TNT…
I've got the 2003 Buick Rendezvous, and it's pretty fun changing the rear spark plugs on this engine too.
man i love this dude…im so quik in anger when i find out the next fuckin thing that i have to do especially busted bolts…but he keeps his cool…gotta love his attitude…but i love his vids!! ERIC IS THE SHIT!!!
I've had to work on a couple of these Montanas. I hate these vans and if I never work on another it will be to soon.
One of the most beautyfull how to vid I ever watch. Thx
For god sake it feels awful looking what you have to disassemble all… Aaa…
Thank you for this video my friend! Helped me so much!!!
Dude you are the best fucking with shit, fucking awesome man lol
What's the down side of just driving with the leaky manifold? Anyone? I love my 2003 Montana but really don't want to keep putting money into it. Or maybe Eric would just like to make another video using my car. I would bring it to him.
My bolts broke off on my 3.4 impala. But it was the exhaust manifold in the back. Thank god the engines out
are you replacing the motor or a gasket…thank you GM
i have 1 of these pontiac montana's and it has a leak right in the same spot
fuckin let it leak bullcrap shoved in a small engine compartment:)
Lemme guess… the reason there was very little coolant in the van was because it was all in the crankcase due to the faulty intake manifold gasket those engines all had?
Do you think that the engineers who designed these cars watch videos like that and think "I'm f***ing glad I didn't have to ever repair them!!"
god this video pisses me off so much. engine spaghetti
hey eric, i too have a pontiac montana. the light in the headlight switch isnt working anymore. is there a bulb in there or do i need to buy a whole new switch? thanks.
Your foot would snap off in an offset head-on collision at 40MPH or greater. Look at the IIHS crash tests of the Pontiac Trans Sport and the Euro NCAP crash tests of the Opel Sintra. You should get rid of this van ASAP!
