Control Arm Bushing Replacement. This video will show you how to easily replace Upper Control Arm bushings (press the old ones out and press the new ones in with common tools). This job is fast and easy and can be done with basic hand tools and a ball joint or bushing press which you can rent for free at your local parts store.

You can also use this method to replace bushings in your leaf springs and pretty much anything that has pressed in bushings!

  1. I failed to mention, the lower control arm is the one I'm talking about. The upper one can be done the same way depending on the vehicle and how much room you have to work. I'll start with the lower one's. You will need a jack stand to put under the frame and possibly one to go under the control arm. Sometimes just a floor jack is good enough for the control arm but other times you will need a jack stand under the end of the control arm while jacking the bushing end back up into place so you can stick the bolt in it, so to change them, you only remove the bolt to one of the bushings, and when you let the jack down, only one side comes down just enough to where you can stick your air hammer, (aka air chisel) and when you hit the trigger, it will come right out, then you put some grease around the new one including the hole, put the bushing in place and find on old socket you don't care about and put it on the bushing so you're not hammering on the bushing itself, so the socket has to be big enough to fit around the rubber so that the socket is making contact with the metal rim of the bushingsd, then hit the trigger and it will push it right back in, then all you have to do is jack the control arm back up into position and stick the bolt back through it. Then you do the other one the same way. Usually the top control arm doesn't have enough room to get your air hammer in there to push the new one back in. A cheap 15 dollar air hammer won't work but something equivalent to the $50 dollar Ingersoll Rand Model# 114GQC will do most everything up to a half ton pickup truck. When you go higher than that or anything with a higher GVWR, then you'll need a bigger air hammer just because the parts are bigger.

  2. You're doing it the hard way. I can change out both bushings with the control arm still on the vehicle, in 10 minutes or less.

  3. Hey Chris, I have a question for you. My mechanic is saying that I will need a whole control arm to be able to replace my Bushing on my XTS. do you think that’s true what do you think or do you think he is lying?

  4. I mean… technically you have to pay full price for the tool. If you return it you get your money back. If you don’t then it’s just yours
