2016 had its ups and downs, but for automakers it was a year to celebrate. More Americans bought a new car in 2016 than any other year in history. And according to The Drive, economists don’t see sales slowing down any time soon.

Americans filled their garages with 12.54 million new cars in 2016 alone. That beats 2015’s record by 56,000 vehicles. And although the average price of a new car hit a high of $35,300, that didn’t seem to keep Americans away from the dealerships. And when we say new “car” sales the spike it was actually driven by trucks and SUVS, which took up 61% of all sales.

The Detroit Three held pretty steady with Ford dropping only 0.1%, followed by GM down 1.3% and Fiat Chrysler who had a tough year down 24% but were saved by the Jeep and Ram divisions helping to bring them back up to only a 0.4% loss. All in all, the auto industry here in the U.S. of A is looking good.
