Lately, carbon fiber’s been the go-to for lightweight material in the auto industry. But Ford’s looking into other options, and it happens to be one of the world’s strongest natural materials. Bamboo may have materials like carbon fiber and aluminum beat, according to Ford’s research.

It’s strong, flexible, and totally renewable since it can grow up to 3 feet a day. Ford is looking to use bamboo in interior features along with combining it with plastic to make it even stronger. Bamboo’s not the only natural material Ford is looking to work with. They’ve partnered with Jose Cuervo to look into the use of the tequila’s agave plant for more bioplastics. How do you feel about moving away from “traditional” materials in exchange for more natural material?

  1. ya'll might think bamboo is strong but when ford uses material they make it so thin like the aluminum that its no different than cardboard.   another stupid ass ford idea        its like they have a group of 8th graders thinking up whats going to be fords next big flop

  2. Well get ready to see Chevy jump on the train 3 years later with some kind of bamboo car
OH before all you haters run your lip take a look at history
    Mustang 1964.5 vs Camaro 1966
Retro Mustang 2005 vs Retro Camaro 2010
and so on. (not putting the effort in on this for chevy fan boys, you want to know look it up yourself.)

  3. God has answer my prayers. For about 2 or 3 years now ive been hoping some car manufacture discover a material just as good or better than carbon fiber to make cars lighter and now my favorite car company FORD is doing that. Im having tears of joy.
