Jerry Seinfeld’s latest project Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has taken off but is now under fire. The show is a basic concept of funny people getting together over coffee and a cool car. But Seinfeld is now being sued with claims that the idea wasn’t his.
Speed Society reports that actor Christian Charles says he pitched the show to Seinfeld in 2002 and now wants his cut. After getting together and even making a pilot, Charles says Seinfeld wasn’t interested. But years later, the show is now produced without Charles and has become a hit and makes Seinfeld about $750,000 an episode! Seinfeld’s attorney says the lawsuit is ridiculous and Seinfeld came up with the show on his own.

Did Robert Llewellyn ever get his cut?
You can't own an idea.
He seems like a scum bag.
The dude lost, a bunch of yada, yada, yada.
I’m not surprised about Seinfeld!🧐
Xeroxed? Why? No more juice in the head
Even if the guy did pitch a show idea to Seinfeld I’m sure he gets pitched shows all the time and they just go in one ear and out the other. Until one morning Jerry wakes up and has a genius idea but little did he know it’s something that was put in his head before that’s been lying dormant for years. Shit like this happens all the time but I wasn’t there so who knows what really happened.
The original pitch name for the show was “Two Stupid Guys in A Stupid Car” Definitely not as catchy.
so doesn't this mean you can just send letters to every single film studio in the world with a huge list of your ideas and then if they ever make a movie similar to it you can just sue them saying they got it from you? For example:
"Movie about a good guy who overcomes hardships and beats the bad guy"
"movie with aliens in it"
"movie about an oppressed minority overcoming prejudice"
and so on, then if any of those movies ever get made I can say they got the idea from me.
I mean just cos Jerry ended up making a show like this doesn't mean he had to have gotten the idea from the friend, could have just come up with it on his own and it just happened to be a similar idea.
It’s outrageous, egregious, preposterous!
Americans sue for astonishing amounts of cash. $100million for a Idea . Ive got $4 right now
I was and am a Fan of "Seinfeld", however I believe rich, successful Celebrities step on quite a few hands on their way up the Ladder. Just a case of the Rich staying Rich. Jerry Seinfeld is the epitome of narcissism.
I believe Seinfeld took the idea from someone else – he is what Led Zeppelin is to Willie Dixon.
In 1900 a guy says to Orville Wright–'wouldn't it be great if humans could fly'–4 years later the Wright brothers are being sued for stealing his idea!! Total bullshit nonsense, all Jerry would have to say is 'my dad gave me the idea in 1995'—case closed !!
It's like the beach all over again.
Proof? If he has some, then he has a case.
Buchwald vs. Paramount (1990). Art Buchwald won a suit claiming ownership of the idea on which the film "Coming to America" was based. Google that, or even wikipedia it, since it's widely known. If the plaintiff has proof, then he will nail Seinfeld. If not, then he's just another dumb schmuck, in Jerry's eyes, and pretty much that's it.
So nobody is gonna acknowledge that deadmau5 been doing that on youtube?
So if this guy pitched the idea to Seinfeld, where was he when Jerry was showing it for SEASONS (multiple) on the Internet? He should have come out then and maybe he'd gotten credit. Loved the show on the Internet but don't get Netflix and so another little show about nothing moves off my radar.
Not sure if it is true…..but ideas are stolen everyday!!!
I know a person that worked for a custom home building company. He came up with an idea…he told his foreman. The foreman ran it by the architect …he approved it.The president set the new plan in place, they saved over 5K per home.!!!
The person with the idea received not one red cent..!!
Does the claimant have witnesses, scripts, anything with Seinfeld's handwriting about the pitch? If so, Jerry, pay up. You have more money than God.
Sounds like a cologne that smells like the beach to me.
Hope he looses !!
Just show the show !!!!!!!!!!
Let's see the pilot. That would demonstrate the validity of this claim.
yeah me to , starbucks stole my idea , only I was going to call it ani'tgotnoBUCKS
i know that i've dranken coffee in a car and made people laugh before. where's my share!!!???
Lets see
Mc Donald's should ask for residuals, because they are the coffee suppliers at the drive through.
Fuck Seinfeld
This series has been going for six years. Now that it's finally making money, suddenly this guy appears out of nowhere. Hmmm….
If jerry knows he stole it he should settle with the guy for some $$
What about Robert Llewellyn's Carpool?
It doesn't matter… People watch the show because is JERRY SEINFELD… It might be called "Comedians walking in the Park enjoying the weather" or "Comedians sitting in a bar drinking Scotch"… Nobody would watch it if the host was Christian Charles or James Sullivan… Charles is a "leach"… the lawsuit will be dismissed and would be nice if Jerry makes Charles pay for his attorney.
