If you haven’t heard of AirBnb, it’s an online service that lets people rent out their personal spaces for short periods of time, like vacation rentals or hotel rooms. And there’s now a concept just like that for garages. Jalopnik reports that “Garage Time” is the new DIY rental space for gearheads. Started by Andrew Koretz the new company allows people to rent out their unused garage space to people who just want to wrench.
After having to use his friends’ garages over the years he decided to start a company that could help gearheads across the country who don’t have a place to work on their rides. Garage Time allows people to rent out their garage for however long they choose whether it’s a few days or just a couple hours. Would you be up for renting your garage? Or renting someone else’s? Let us know!
This weekend on PowerNation we check out a one of a kind auto shop. Owner Mark Lambert works on what he considers to be some of the best cars to come out of Detroit: the 1920s and 1930s American cars. And all from an old Nashville firehouse that was turned into his shop!
He feels they are the most roadworthy and durable cars on the road like those from Packard, Pierce Arrow, and even Rolls Royce. Mark is a one-man band, but yet a lot of cars come through the old firehouse doors. Mark is also a Concours level judge at events like the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, or what Mark calls the Super Bowl of car shows. He’ll give you some of the secrets to what judges really look for at that level. To top it off, Mark and Gannon also take a ride in one of Lambert Auto’s Packards.
It’s an amazing amount of cool content, plus we have four brand new episodes of hardcore how-to you can use from our shops so be sure to tune in Sunday morning at 9am ET on Paramount Network.

I have been looking for somewhere lake that
Garage Time doesn't provide that service any longer. Is there another service provider like it currently?
Most US military installations have a DIY shop where military members and their dependents can take their vehicle and rent a stall space or lift to do work on your vehicle. They have certified technicians to run the place and ensure all EPA/OSHA standards are followed as well as provide assistance. Of course you have to attend an annual course regarding safety, EPA standards, and proper operation of lifts and certain equipment. You can bring your own tools, or use theirs. They do inspect the tools in the tool boxes before and after each use to ensure no tools are missing or broken and that missing/broken tools are properly annotated. Specialty tools have to be signed out using the numbered chits they give you based on the stall you are renting. They have to account for all chits and ensure all tools are returned prior to leaving. Some of the shops will have their own tire shops, machine shops, and welding shops. Typically they will be operated by certified techs and will require you to pay extra for those services. I was a vehicle mechanic in the Air Force, so I would provide my certifications and they would allow me to use the shops myself after a brief overview of the equipment. If you had experience with those particular shop equipment or had ASE certifications, they would test you on your knowledge before allowing you to use them. Of course they would always be there to supervise and provide assistance at all times. After all, it was their shops.
This concept would be great out in the civilian sector, however there would be much less overview and stringent rules due to the more lenient enforcements in the civilian sector. Your average civilian maintenance shop would be permanently shut down if subjected to the standards of Military Maintenance shops! I would have a very hard time working in the average maintenance shop and dealership maintenance shop due to the lack of cleanliness, organization, and abiding by EPA/OSHA regulations. I got a tour of one of our local dealership maintenance shops. It look well organized and clean, yet within in the first minute I identified 20 violations that would result in multiple fines of up to $1M and lots of federal prison time. Looks are deceiving. When I was asked if I would like working there, I was very blunt and honest. I pointed out all the violations and that working here would be a mistake since clearly the entire leadership does not care about the employees and their futures. Federal Prison is NOT a future anyone wants. The manager was stunned and impressed at the same time. Granted, I'm sure those violations are allowed to slide to a certain degree because it is NOT a government shop and there are many under the table agreements due to corrupt politics. Gotta love the double standards of the elites and their overlord organizations.
I like the idea, but unfortunately it seems to only be for bigger cities. Maybe try to promote more to get more people to use it
please do, renting a garage would be really helpful.
This will work in NYC where street parking is common. If you need to DIY your car, like modifying or fixing it, it will be troublesome to do it on streets. This is where garagetime is useful.
I like this idea. I live in a townhome community with no garage space. I'd like to fix my own car and this could be a great option, I'll check it out.
Thankfully I have a wide enough storage unit.
