The 402,000 mile Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is back at Sound Performance for revenge. It broke on the dyno last time and we weren’t able to get good dyno numbers. Its all fixed up and in this video you see exactly what 400k miles does for power on a hand built AMG engine.

  1. Alex, i’ve owned two AMG 63s, a brand new 209 C63 AMG and a two year old, certified E63 AMG. I had lifter problems with the E63 and possibly valve timer problems. Dealer changed all 4 cams and 31 Of the 32 lifters. Car ran beautifully for 1000 miles or so, total indicated mileage was about 43,000 and at time of issue, I had owned the car for four years. Never abused it, proper maintenance, never used launch control and only full throttle on the freeway. Didn’t keep the C63 long enough to know (less than one year). Your 402,000 E55 AMG obviously never had valve issues, simply put, what’s the difference? I want another but am a bit gun shy.   2. Loved the video. I have a 3x Benz's 38yrs old 300SD 300K, 16yo E320 349,000Miles on it, and 2001 S55 AMG M113 150,000miles. I'm one of those hardcore home mechanic's, but I never opened the top end on the M112 and M113's engines. The 300SD diesel i had to perform routine valve adjustments every ~100K. None use oil. The old school OM617 diesels and M112,M113 engines are the most reliable engines every manufactured in history. The M112,M113 engines have a special silicone crystal lined aluminum cylinder/block that was polished like glass, acid etched to remove aluminum particles and leave behind only the hard silicone, then polished again. And everything else is polished and forged. all have 8Liters if oil which is probably another reason they last so long, always getting plenty of fresh cool oil. They use a sophisticated thermoconductivity sensor to monitor oil condition and tailor change intervals according to specific driving conditions, not predetermined mileage intervals. Usually my oil changes have been every 10-12K miles. They all have the 722.xxx variant 4spd (300SD) and 5spd (E320,S55) automatic transmission is also the best transmission in the world. The transmission is still built and used in many production and race cars around the world today.

  3. 216000 miles on my 2006 E55, replaced an alternator, front electro hydraulic shocks, free gas tank a couple of years ago from Mercedes and free SBC pump a month ago from Mercedes. I love my beast and there is nothing out there that I want to replace it with.

    I am about to buy a 160 000 miles W211 E 55 AMG. Please excuse me for the noob question, but I have no knowledge regarding cars. I just like to ride them and pay to people to maintain them.

    Should I expect a loss of some HP at this stage? And if some HP are lost, can I "restore" them by changing something under the hood?

IC pump is toast still pretty damn good for so much miles over half a million kilometer and didnt even loose 100 HK I say that is s pretty damn impressive, not try a lamp or Ferrari with same miles and see how much that have lost .Appreciate the vid really shows German quality as always on the TOP
