Abandoned Chevelle Engine Removal & Tear Down – Vice Grip Garage EP72 – Car Mod Pros Portal

The 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Known as Independence goes under the knife, big time. With some help from a friend Tom, we remove the entire front clip, and the 350 small block chevy, and TH350 transmission. We then threw the 350 on a stand and tore it down far enough to understand why it was running so poorly. I suspected a bad lifter or wiped cam lobe. What was your guess? Watch and see if you’re right!

  1. I had s*** luck only two times where instead of raising it up I lowered it and just popped the ass and out and shook the f*** out of it so I wasn't so high in the air only cuz I was doing some backwoods sketchy s*** you won't even believe what the car was handing it on I'm just saying

  2. Decoding Cam Numbers

You also may see camshafts referenced with the last few final numbers different from the cam’s official GM part number. For instance, the Duntov cam has a GM part number 3736097 but cast into the camshaft is the number 3736098. It doesn’t indicate a different cam or an earlier or later version. That number is actually the casting number of the camshaft, not the part number. Retired GM employee, John Hinckley, an NCRS Master Judge, explains the one number difference, “Each Chevy camshaft had its own dedicated casting number to minimize the cam-grinding cycle time. When you consider that Flint V8 ground 5,500 cams every day, you can see how important it was to keep track of what you were grinding.”

  3. That's an insanely clean engine for some. I did one that was carboned up so bad that when I took the valve covers off you could barely see the rockers. It was so carboned up that the carbon build up was shiny wher it was rubbing. Also, I knocked an engine over on a 3 point stand one. Never used one of those ever again. It'll wake a feller up.

  4. Holy mackerel it's a good rare find!!!! That ol engine is a keeper…. wether you make it a boat anker or a good runner….she's gonna do n be good for something right? Lol anywho great job lil helper….you did all the work!!! Lol nah pretty productive day I'd say y'all work good together in this episode 😁

  5. Derek , another great video with excellent information . As to the Camshaft # 965709 From Chevrolet tech forum :

New member looking for specs / info on a small block chevy camshaft # 965709 , Thank you

    Charles Brown

Looks like the specs of the old GM 300hp 350cu in SBC cam. Smooth idle, good torque down low. Not a big rpm horse power cam.
