Barn Find 1979 Dodge D100 Step Side – Will It Run and Drive Home? – Car Mod Pros Portal

I found a pretty rare truck these days, sitting in a pole barn in western Minnesota. It’s a 1979 Dodge D100, step side, long box, 4 speed. Adventurer? Macho? Power Wagon? Lil Red? Palomino? Custom? I’m sure I’m missing a dozen. Anyhoo, it was supposedly a forest service truck, then went to the farms once retired. It’s been sitting no less than 10 years, but I suspect it’s been more than that. Watch me battle this old classic dodge, as I attempt to drive it home!

*This video was filmed summer of 2020. The footage was on a damaged hard drive, and eventually partially recovered.

  1. Me, from Tucson AZ, I had a truck like this. I used it to build a short block. Slant six, but lost its compression.
I was all finished and drove it home. Just as I parked it, the engine seized. After talking to my block provider, he suggested that I should call a local mechanic. I did, and was provided another short block for free. The mechanic found the oil pick-up tube installed wrong. I drove it home dry.
It only cost me a nominal fee for hoses and belts. I have learned a lot since then. Take a picture before removing anything.

  2. I have a chevrolet 2500 Express van, been sitting for about 8 years. Has a 350 engine with blown head gasket. Started to work on it but got to busy to continue partially disassembled but all parts are there. Interested ? Cheep $600.00

  3. My great grandfather was the Charlie Daniels of a torque wrench so he used to buy old trucks from DNR and him and my uncle would fix them up and run them the first truck they fixed together was a 1979 D100 Custom and after fixing it he gave it to my uncle but just recently my uncle gave it to me

  4. Just started watching VGG, Awesome! Love those tin grill Mopar trucks! What a diamond in the rough! Awesome find, low miles and 4spd, bonus! Wanna sell it?! Great show dude, i love the barn and field finds! Hit me up if ya need an Apprentice, im down with it!

  5. My old man, construction business, built a Dodge dealership in the early 70s and he bought a sky blue Dodge club cab truck from that customer. The long bed truck had a 318 and a full pipe rack. It was ugly from brand new and the club cab was mainly useful for storing tools. I remember sitting on the fenders with my feet in the engine bay while changing spark plugs and performing other simple maintenance. I learned to drive in that ugly old thing. It was two wheel drive and would get stuck on a wet piece of paper. I remember wishing it would quit but it kept going, mile after mile. Never much of a looker but it took a lot of abuse and kept on going as long as it was on dry pavement.
