Many here on YouTube buy cars from the auction sight unseen. I’ve done this too but in this video, I show you why you shouldn’t. I’ll show you an M3 that I almost overpaid for and we fix a twin-turbo BMW that just came from the auction. It’s a total basket case and in LegitStreetCars fashion, I break down the true cost of purchasing the BMW and what it took to fix it. I’m looking for a 335I with a manual and has to be a coupe. It can’t be perfect or heavily modified. I prefer one that’s cheap because it’s broken or has high mileage. Basically, a car that I can make videos with. Email me at legitstreetcars@gmail.com

  1. In my experience after 20 years in the car business, false economy to buy one cheap at auction/ anywhere else. Bought a 1 owner 335i coupe early pandemic with a fresh BMW invoice for $10.9k. All the usual/known problems had just been addressed plus a full BMW history and paid $12.5k. Owner was going to keep forever until he got offered his Mum's C43 trade in for $10k off retail. Sold it for $17k. New owner would be howling with laughter with todays's prices!… @$23k AUD here currently.
Great cars/engine but good provenance is absolutely key on these and saves thousands if in place.

  2. Yeah I love these cars been working on them fir twenty five years. But the reliability is 0 horrible now which is pretty sad. I would rather have my old e34 m5 that would kick this things ass and its twice the wait. It's ridiculous how many check engine lights would come on with the new generation stuff why I quit working at bmw and I'm on my own now. I specialize in the e34 e38 e39 and e46. Anything after 04 I will not work on only minor stuff the reliability is ridiculous. My e38 still has the original hubs bearings I work on e30s that still have there original backing plates. The most powerful one I've owned was an e34 earospec m5 making 1100 hp. With just a turbo and ecu

  3. $6000 is not bad at all for E92 manual. Upgrade to alumunim charge pipe – replace vacuum lines – you have to replacce valve cover, oil filter housing and waste gates – He scored on injectors – they are now $1800 for a set of 6 on fcpeuro.

  4. I worked at Jiffy Lube when I was 18, we had a guy there that drained the transmission fluid instead of the oil once so the car got overfilled with oil and had no transmission fluid. Same moron ended up getting fired just a while later for stealing pills out of a customers car.

  5. That's quite a neglected 335i with all the faults, dents and scuffs, I had a pristine 2007 335i but with quite high miles about 160k I think it was. It's a superb car, weak point is high pressure fuel pump, do expect that to fail if it hasn't already been replaced. Calipers are also prone to stick too though that could be a lot to do with cold / damp UK climate.
