I picked up a Ford powered Bricklin SV1 from my buddy Tavarish way down in florida. This car has been off the road for decades. Will it start? Will it drive the 700 miles home?

  1. Man you are the coolest guy Derek, they just aired your motortrend roadworthy rescues in the Netherlands and now i found your channel with hours and hours of exactly what i like to watch with the most fun dude on the planet! YES!

  2. I would LOVE to hear an update on this project. Ive been patiently waiting, but i couldnt remember what the name of the gull winged, no hooded bastard was called!

  3. I would have to say there feller. I would say most definitely that the 9k is most definitely legit! I almost sh$t when that thing fired right up & ran like a swiss watch!!!??!!! No wonder Ford put them in everything from pickup trucks to Lincoln's…. WOW! Quiet/SMOOOOOTH & GUTLESS! LOL… That is one plus of the smogged out, gutless V8s of the 70s. They were built for Max economy/mileage. So basically they were beater proof if left stock. Under powered/stressed lazy motors that never broke a sweat, lol …. I used to think it was crazy why they continued using Big blocks! Even making them bigger no doubt!?! Or having larger motors available / standard on California cars? Bottom line…under stressed/worked motors that couldn't break a sweat if it wanted to ran GREAT!!! Not to mention running FOREVER with simple know how & ridiculously affordable, easy to install parts/fluids etc….

  4. I was the lead mechanical engineer during the development stage on this car. Wow, this really takes me back. I spotted the overheating issue Tavarish was likely struggling with immediately at 11:00

  5. I owned a Bricklin for about 10 years. (Number 35 ever produced) I have mechanical ability. I did put about 500 miles, dozens of hours, and thousands of dollars into it.

Eventually, I abandoned it on the side of the road in utter frustration.

I feel less bad about my failure now…funny, I had all the same issues Derek had! 😅

  6. Sadly not nearly as great as a Pantera but still a fascinating piece of history
edit: I knew that was gonna overheat. They kinda are notorious for it for obvious reasons. Should rout out those false louvers in the front
