Phil takes a look at the HTC One M8 Google Play edition. Think M8, only minus a lot of the software. Dot View case works, but only partially. Same for Motion Launch. You do have HTC’s imaging effects, though, so the Duo Camera isn’t wasted.

  1. Thanks i was originally aiming for the google play edition and the dot case now i know some features only work on the htc version .

  2. Phil how is the speed of the camera and picture quality on the GPE vs the sense version sans any HTC pixy dust?

I remember having an issue with MMS pic quality with the M7 GPE, is that present on the M8?

  3. So, while I gave the M8 its due diligence.. I will ask 2 things…
    1. Batery life vs. Sense version
    2. Updates.. While this is the Google play edition the updates are STILL coming from HTC correct?

  4. Did anyone else watching on their phone think the notification in the camera app was from their phone? I stated tapping my screen when that came up 😛

  5. OEMs should just make stock android devices and add their own features to it rather than changing everything in the OS. This is honestly so much better. Wouldn't mind using this

  6. Just shattered the screen on my old One – and ordered a One M8, shipping today 🙂 Totally getting the dot cover for this one, even though I had a UAG cover on the previous one too. It just didn't protect the screen this time. Broke my first phone in 20 years.

  7. In my experience using a Sense phone with stock Android leaves a little to be desired but at least they give you a few HTC options on this version
