Security across London ramps up as people wait hours to see the queen

1. She's been our Head of State for 70 years, for goodness sake – for comparison, fully 30% of the lifetime of the United States – and a damned good one. So yes, most people revere her – not for her position (we certainly have not revered or even respected all monarchs in our history) but for the way she did the job. We could of course choose to be a republic and have a politician head of state like Trump🤨. For those that say these people had "nothing better to do", sleep would be one. I work two jobs and have two kids to look after. I finished work, went into London after putting them to bed, queued all night, paid my respects early in the morning, went back home, took the kids to school and went back to work. Many others were doing similarly, and people had come from all across the UK, the Commonwealth and beyond. For those dissing those in the queue, ask yourself what type of person gives up their time to express gratitude and pay their respects to someone who fully deserves it – they were the people who volunteer in the military, collecting for charities, at kids sports clubs, as first aiders, firefighters, in care homes etc. There were welders and roofers there, and teachers and caterers and lawyers and everything in between. They're the backbone of our society. She was a wise and hardworking doer who embodied all the best things of our nation, and we loved and respected her – in contrast to the keyboard warriors who don't know how good they have it and how much they have to be proud of, the pathetic cynics who think they're too cool to respect anyone, and the professional victims who point and jeer in their unstudied ignorance but do nothing to enrich the lives of others.

8. Its a nice day out for some people. Not for me. I was loyal in service and would still be if ordered to report for duty again, but this crowd looks like they will spend next weekend at an antiques roadshow. Some ex service folk will always respect and daresay enjoy this sort of thing but just as many if not more will prefer all day in a bar with Motorhead, and mayhem.
