Nationwide teacher shortage hits schools as new year begins l ABCNL

1. Pay more!!! Not only teacher but school aides don’t get paid enough. We have to seek a second job.

2. Raise their wages.

3. When there are no real consequences for atrocious student behaviors and teachers have to worry about being assaulted or punched by students, i can see why there is a teacher shortage

4. My question is, are students in other countries acting like up? Most schools went virtual and covid affected the whole world, so are all the students acting crazy or just those in the US?

5. This has been a decades long issue- Public Schools have been under attack, held to surreal standards with less community and state support.

6. MONEY 💰 IS THE ISSUE.

   Here is an easy quick solution for now : lower the amount of federal taxes teachers have to pay . Regardless of salary. If your a public school teacher your federal tax amount should be lower .

   Think about it, if you have an MA yet you can't even afford rent . You cant afford a car . Your life style sucks because your pay is ridiculous low
   An your expected to work you tail off and deal with tremendous stress daily ….

   Why would anyone stay or enter this profession?

   Also, major pay increases needed to be made for senior teachers (10 years plus) because the longer you teach the better you become at the profession… if you can last an maintain your mental health .

8. I substituted for two years and kids are out of controlI had a KINDERGARTENER flip tables, run crazy, threaten other kids with the TEACHER'S scissors. I know a teacher who was stabbed with a pencil by a kid.

26. Incompetent administrators, ineffective use of teacher time, over-filled classes, disrespectful kids and parents, kids who were brought up by things on screens, bureaucracy and mismanagement. Yeah, pay is low… but the job has so many more issues than just pay.

31. It’s not right that a professional teacher take on a second job. Teachers prepare our future, their pay NEEDS to increase already.

32. My parents always have told me to fallback as a teacher. Idk how she just learned this. Young people need to learn that you go to school for what makes money, not for happiness. After you make money, you can spend it on things that bring you temporary happiness, but do not choose temporary happiness now, because there is no money in that. As my father would say, don’t take student loans to pay for your studies in underwater basket weaving. Do something useful and stop wasting time and money. Make money in time. You’ll get your happiness.

35. It's not always the kids, it's administration. I am not nor have ever been an official teacher for this reason. The pay is low, administration wants you to do literal impossible things with zero support. sure yeah let's have 36 kids but 30 desk, every lesson needs to be 1 week long, you need to hand in lesson plans but gives you zero time to lesson plan… there is so much more. I know these things because I really wanted to be a teacher and volunteer taught at a non profit, so I saw the struggle and don't want it.

36. This is the same as nursing, nurses are fed up burned out and underpaid, understaffed, and dealing with out of control patients and families

37. Yeah I tried being a teacher for one year and I HATED IT. Never ever again but so grateful and amazed by teachers.

38. I loved my students, I was a firm believer in education. Here's why I lift education.
    1. Lack of a living wage. After all the time to get my degree, the hours of continued education, countless sacrifices made for OTHER PEOPLES CHILDREN. My wife, who works at a grocery store makes more than I did.
    2 The public. Do any of you parents truly understand the sacrifices teachers make everyday for your kids? To watch one of your kids go down a dark path, to know it is the parents' influence pushing them that direction and to be powerless to stop any of it. The hate you parents had for us doing the best we could during the pandemic. Look I get being stressed out, but who do you people think you are.
    3 the dumbing down of our nation. As a history teacher. The lessons of the past are my bread and butter. Across all demographics, in every region. There has been a systematic dumbing down of the coming generations. While I have my theories, not stating them here. It is very obvious to the initiated, that this is occurring. An under educated population is easier to manipulate and control. But are more prone to violence.

39. Teacher shortage solution: Keep politics out of the classroom, and teach math, science, reading. You know school. Lol

40. I taught for 16 years in DC Public Schools. Left the profession 10 years ago. There is NO amount of money anyone can pay me to teach again.

41. Canceling the multi-billion dollar football programs would be a great start. When my parents started teaching in the early sixties, housing was supplied. Let's do that too

42. This is just like the “nursing shortage”. There is no nurse or teacher shortage. There is a shortage of nurses and teachers who are willing to put up with poor pay, poor conditions, and lack of support. Lol bs.
