A regional air carrier is now offering to pay its pilots three times the regular rate to work on their days off in an effort to address staff shortages. ABC News’ Rhiannon Ally has more.

a nationwide rail system could help… Just saying….
I’m a commercial pilot.
We have a FTL flight time limitation which is a hard limit that cannot be exceeded. FTL is there to prevent overworking and ensuring enough rest for pilots.
Triple pay sounds a lot but there’s limited hours we can do actually. Let’s say we have a FTL of 900 hours annually. That’s 75 hours per month on average. If we are already rostered to fly 70 hours on that month. We really have extra 5 hours of work that can be done, and UP TO 3x pay. That’s 10-15% extra pay for that month if you ever choose to sacrifice your time with the family and friends. It’s not the entire take home pay tripled.
And this is not a permanent scheme. This is an ad hoc scheme. It will end as soon as the rush season ends.
It just sounds a lot. But I’m monetary terms, some pilots will make extra 3-5000 dollars in the coming 2 months. That’s it.
The airlines create their own disasters. If they I don’t have the resources to fly the people, don’t sell the seat tickets. Yes, cap it. (Duh)
As they should pay their staff triple! They’re definitely charging us triple
Just FYI regional air pilot r way under paid compare to major carrier….
Sleep. Do not underestimate the power of sleep. The necessity of rest, relaxation and sleep. I don’t want to fly with a pilot that might be overworked or even slightly stressed. These men and women should be treated great but they need rest and relaxation between shifts.
Or they can send me to pilot school might be cheaper 🤷ðŸÂ½â€ÂÂ♂ï¸ÂÂ
Day off is for a reason….rest!!!
People SERIOUSLY need to blame themselves, should've DONE research prior to ANY holiday flight plans. Especially NOW that airlines are experiencing staffing shortages. Come on people, DO YOUR DAMN RESEARCH BEFOREHAND.
Why do they keep blaming bad weather? It's summer time. Yes storms develop in summer heat but they can easily go around them. There's no 1500 mile long squall lines crossing the country. No icy runways. No blizzards. Blame themselves for firing people.
So having a bunch of sleepy pilots working their days off is a solution? Hope that autopilot works on landing.
I've applied for a $125,000 loan to go to pilot school but was denied they don't need pilets that bad.
The solution is to build bullet trains
Aren’t there faa hour rules? For safety? These fuckers got 50 billion in bail out , increase pay and hire people u fucks
firing pilots over stupid vaccinations didnt work huh lol…… dumb sheep
I don't think the 1500 hour rule is really necessary tbh. Glad in europe the is no such thing as that
Overworking Pilots doesn’t sound dangerous at all
Wow sign me up doesn't sound too bad, imagine making triple pay plus probably overtime
im learning to become a pilot hopefully one day i can fly you all wherever you desire
I wish I was a pilot.
1:37 EU Airports stay cappin’ bruhh🧢
Higher fares everyone? I doubt the corporate executives are taking the pay cuts. Honestly, why offer available flights when they don't have the pilots to fly the planes? People make vacation or business trip plans. I'd rather see fewer flights available versus having multiple flights that you think are available but end up being cancelled.
And that is exactly why tommy fury can’t go to America lol 😂 😂
Triple-pay ? I would fly for minimum wage to be a pilot lol
Need to start paying people properly
Triple pay!? No let them off!!! That's insane to be overworking somebody who's job is so important. They have people lives in their hands and that shouldn't be taken lightly.
No more flying this year…period…..
Thank God I am home…I got stuck in New York…..4 days…..
None of this sounds safe at all..
well maybe this means ill get a job when i finish my training. hooray
Great…tired worn out pilots, just found another reason not to fly
A lot of people want to be pilots but it's so damn expensive
Triple pay, must be nice
Triple pay is cool and all but what about the ramp agents and mechanics who are working non-stop for 6-10 hours at a time 24/7, 365 days a year. Increased pay won’t help pilot shortage either. I’ve been flying since 16 and now it’s far too expensive to become a pilot without being generously wealthy, not to mention it takes years sometimes even decades to get to where those pilots are.
Sounds like people who need a job should focus on a career as a pilot rather than fight for McDonald's to pay $60 an hour
They should hire this guy immediately

Be aware, per federal regulations, pilots are limited to fly up to 100 hours per month and 1000 hours per year. And even during weeks, they're limited to 32 hours. (and there is a bunch of other limitations depending on how many flight hours they do within 24 consecutive hours).
So their days off are there as conservative estimates of how many days the pilots were going to fly, considering the days off of all other pilots within a specific fleet. At no point, safety will be jeopardized because of the regulations.
To those worried about pilot fatigue, the FAA imposes flight time limitations.
