Ukrainian leaders want other countries to declare a no-fly zone (initiation of WWIII), expect support, want military fighter jets and military equipment in general etc., on the basis that THEY (Ukrainian leaders) want/ed NATO membership and they didn't think that the Russia meant their decades old stated position – and Ukrainian leaders failed to adequately prepare for the predictable invasion.
