This is about as easy as it comes but it can save you a great deal of money over buying a new or remanufactured alternator. Sometimes they get stuck on the brackets. A pry bar is very helpful if that happens.

If you’re not familiar with Pull-A-Part, they’re a self service salvage company in the US. They have 25 yards in 12 states. I’m not just saying this, but they’ve become my favorite place to go for salvage parts. I suggest you check them out.

  1. Buy a used one for less from a full service dismantler with a 90 day warranty, U pull yards think people are suckers when it comes to alternators.
This yard charges $26.99 for an alt + entrance+$2, environmental fee +$3, warranty +Varies, sales tax etc. by the time your done your pushing over $40 Full service yards have both the 70 and 80 amp alternators for $15-30 pulled, tested and with a 90 day warr, no fake environmental fee, no entrance fee, no wasting your time, no addtl charge for warranty (URG & car part)

  2. Hey Eric! I see your using Gorilla Gloves from Home Depot. I tried these ant they last a couple weeks. I was introduced to Maxiflex gloves by a YouTube machinist named Tom Lipton. His channel is OxTool, check him out. I bought a dozen Maxiflex pairs for around $45. They are great, you can pick up dimes with them. I am on the same pair going on 3 months.

  3. Really like your how to – s, Eric, Can't wait for the full sized car, on the ground, starter removal. LOL. Keep up the great videos Bud.

  4. If possible, test the alternator before removing it. Why remove an alternator if it is bad? It would suck to find out that the alternator is bad after installing it.

  5. Nice video! I go to a pull-a-part junkyard and used parts i found for my '97 Chevy and 97' BMW. My '99 Toyota 4runner is super reliable and havent had to replace much on that…. 205k miles and counting!

  6. Hello Eric the car guy. I have been enjoying many of your automotive repair videos. I hope you don't mind me going off subject. I am getting desperate. I have a very annoying and potentially detrimental problem. My Mercury Sable year 2002. The factory installed automatic Anti-Theft car alarm goes off for no reason as the sun is coming out especially when there is a moisture high humidity situation going on. And my automatic on headlights go off sometimes while I'm driving and I have to turn the selector switch to full on continuous to make them come on again. The car alarm does not go off when the car doors are locked. The car battery is functioning normally. I'm afraid to lock my car when I go grocery shopping. I really need to lock my car. Any and all help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  7. i swear to god eric, if you give us one more of these salvage yard videos without a fairmont video… i mean i love your videos, but come on man!
