  1. I know a couple of people that were adopted as children but never get over the feelings that their birth mothers didn't want them. They grew up in loving families but still had abandonment issues. Each case is different but some adoptees suffer from not being able to find their birth families.

  4. This has not completely gone away. I was adopted in 1964 in South Carolina. To this day I cannot get my original birth certificate. I did not find out I was adopted until I was 52 and took a DNA test because I was interested as a biologist in the way it was being used in genealogy. I was going to be talking about it with my students so i thought "why not?". Then I get the results and I see NO names that I expect to see… but just 2 weeks afterwards I get an email from a woman that says she things I'm her half sister. My mother had passed by then and my father was not well. SC recently started allowing those that went through public adoptions through the state can get certain information …. but those of us that were adopted by private adoption can only get information from the lawyers that handled our cases. I don't know who that was and my parents kept no paperwork. Eventually I went to my adoptive father and he said my mother made sure the attorney kept the paperwork and he didn't know of any at home. My aunt worked as a nurse on the maternity ward of a nearby hospital. She and the doctor contacted my mother knowing she wanted to adopt and it was arranged that way somehow. All my dad knew was that the attorney was probably in a nearby town. Being 50 years later it's highly doubtful that practice even still exists. I have an idea of who my biological mother is… but no proof as not many in that family have done DNA testing. If it is the person I think it was… she died 14 years ago at a relatively young age and I'd like to know the cause for my own health and that of my children and grandchildren. My biological father wasn't sure who it was… or at least said he didn't and now he's dead. Now I have to wonder how ethical any of this was.
